POSITION SUMMARY

The Auto Body Technician / Paint Prepper / Automotive Detailer is responsible for assisting with the complete repair, preparation, refinishing, and final appearance of customer vehicles. This position plays an important role in maintaining Eddie's Auto Body and Collision's standards for quality workmanship, safety, efficiency, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction. The employee will perform a variety of duties throughout the collision repair process, including vehicle disassembly, body repair assistance, sanding, filling, masking, surface preparation, paint preparation, detailing, cleaning, polishing, and final vehicle inspection. The successful candidate should take pride in their workmanship, have strong attention to detail, work efficiently as part of a team, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES1. AUTO BODY TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspect damaged vehicles and assist in determining the extent of collision damage. Safely disassemble damaged vehicle components as necessary for repair. Remove bumpers, fenders, doors, trim, lights, moldings, grilles, panels, and other components. Assist with structural and non-structural collision repairs. Perform or assist with body panel repairs, replacement, alignment, and installation. Repair dents, dings, scratches, cracks, and other body damage. Perform minor metal straightening and shaping when appropriate. Assist with frame and structural repairs according to manufacturer and shop procedures. Perform welding or welding assistance when properly trained and authorized. Repair or prepare fiberglass and composite components when required. Apply body filler and other approved repair materials. Sand and feather damaged areas to achieve proper contours and smooth transitions. Assist with vehicle reassembly following repairs. Install replacement parts and ensure proper fit, alignment, and operation. Check panel gaps, body lines, doors, hoods, trunks, bumpers, and other components for proper alignment. Protect vehicle interiors and undamaged areas during the repair process. Identify additional damage or repair requirements and communicate findings to management. Follow repair procedures and manufacturer specifications whenever applicable. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe operating condition. 2.

PAINT PREPARATION RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare vehicles and vehicle components for refinishing. Wash and clean surfaces before beginning preparation. Remove contaminants such as dirt, grease, wax, silicone, and road film. Sand repaired and replacement panels to prepare surfaces for primer and paint. Feather-edge damaged areas to produce smooth transitions. Apply body filler, glazing putty, primer, sealer, and other approved refinishing materials as directed. Block-sand panels to achieve a smooth, straight surface. Inspect panels for imperfections before they move into the paint process. Identify pinholes, scratches, low spots, high spots, sanding marks, or other imperfections. Correct surface imperfections before painting. Mask vehicles carefully to protect glass, trim, tires, wheels, lights, moldings, and undamaged areas. Prepare replacement panels and parts for refinishing. Assist the painter with paint preparation and vehicle positioning as needed. Maintain clean preparation areas to reduce dust and contamination. Properly clean and maintain sanding and preparation equipment. Follow all manufacturer instructions for primers, fillers, sealers, coatings, and other refinishing products. Follow proper procedures for handling paint-related materials and chemicals. Maintain appropriate personal protective equipment and follow shop safety requirements. 3.

AUTOMOTIVE DETAILING RESPONSIBILITIES

The Detailer is responsible for returning completed vehicles to a clean, presentable, and customer-ready condition. Interior Detailing Vacuum carpets, floors, seats, and interior compartments. Clean dashboards, consoles, door panels, cup holders, and other interior surfaces. Clean windows and mirrors. Remove dust, dirt, debris, and repair-related contaminants from the interior. Clean and condition appropriate interior materials. Inspect the interior for stains, damage, debris, or other concerns. Ensure the vehicle interior is clean and properly protected before delivery. Exterior Detailing Wash vehicles thoroughly after repairs and refinishing. Clean wheels, tires, wheel wells, and exterior trim. Remove overspray, dust, compound residue, adhesive residue, and other contaminants when appropriate. Buff and polish painted surfaces as required. Perform paint correction or polishing when directed. Apply approved waxes, sealants, or finishing products. Clean door jambs, trunk areas, engine compartments when appropriate, and other accessible areas. Ensure repaired areas are clean and free of visible residue. Perform a final visual inspection of the exterior before vehicle delivery. 4.

QUALITY CONTROL

The employee is expected to maintain a high standard of workmanship throughout every stage of the repair process.

Responsibilities include:

Inspecting work before moving vehicles to the next stage of repair. Checking body panels for proper fit and alignment. Checking repaired surfaces for imperfections before painting. Checking painted surfaces for visible defects, contamination, runs, sanding marks, or other issues. Identifying problems before the vehicle reaches the customer. Reporting quality concerns immediately to the Shop Manager or Owner. Assisting with final quality-control inspections. Ensuring completed vehicles meet Eddie's Auto Body and Collision standards. 5.

SHOP SAFETY

Safety is a fundamental responsibility of this position.

The employee must:

Follow all company safety procedures. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Properly use respirators and other required protective equipment when applicable. Follow procedures for handling chemicals, solvents, paint products, fillers, and other hazardous materials. Maintain proper ventilation and housekeeping practices. Use power tools, sanding equipment, lifts, welders, and other equipment only when properly trained and authorized. Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, spills, injuries, or accidents. Keep work areas clean and free of unnecessary hazards. Properly dispose of waste materials according to company procedures. Follow all applicable OSHA and workplace safety requirements. 6.

VEHICLE PROTECTION

Because customer vehicles are valuable property, the employee must take appropriate precautions throughout the repair process. Use seat covers, floor mats, steering-wheel covers, and protective coverings when appropriate. Protect glass, trim, wheels, tires, and undamaged body panels. Prevent unnecessary damage to customer vehicles. Keep tools and equipment organized and away from vehicle surfaces. Immediately report any accidental damage to management. Maintain professional care and respect for every customer's vehicle. 7.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

The employee is expected to properly operate, maintain, and care for shop equipment, including when applicable: Sanders Polishers and buffers Grinders Pneumatic tools Power tools Hand tools Air compressors and air lines Paint preparation equipment Spray equipment Welding equipment Vehicle lifts Detailing equipment Vacuum systems Pressure washers Other collision-repair and refinishing equipment Employees are responsible for reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment and maintaining tools in a clean and safe condition. 8.

WORKPLACE CLEANLINESS A

clean shop promotes safety, efficiency, and quality.

The employee is responsible for:

Cleaning work areas throughout the day. Keeping tools organized. Removing trash and repair debris. Cleaning sanding and preparation areas. Maintaining clean detailing areas. Properly storing materials and equipment. Cleaning vehicles and work areas after completing assigned work. Assisting with general shop housekeeping when needed. 9.

TEAMWORK AND COMMUNICATION

The position requires close cooperation with body technicians, painters, estimators, detailers, management, and other employees.

The employee is expected to:

The employee is expected to complete assigned work efficiently while maintaining Eddie's Auto Body and Collision's quality standards.

Responsibilities include:

Beginning assigned work promptly. Following established repair procedures. Managing time effectively. Meeting reasonable production deadlines. Avoiding unnecessary delays and rework. Maintaining consistent quality throughout the repair process. Communicating when additional time or materials are required. Quality and safety must never be sacrificed for speed. 11.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Although the position is primarily a technical role, every employee represents Eddie's Auto Body and Collision.

The employee should:

Treat customers and their vehicles with respect. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude. Avoid discussing confidential customer or insurance information. Direct customer questions outside the employee's authority to management. Help create a professional and trustworthy customer experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous automotive collision repair, bodywork, paint preparation, detailing, or related experience preferred. Knowledge of basic auto body repair procedures preferred. Ability to properly use hand and power tools. Ability to perform sanding, masking, surface preparation, and detailing. Strong attention to detail. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to safely lift, move, and position automotive parts and equipment. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Valid driver's license preferred. Ability to work in a physically demanding automotive repair environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Preferred candidates may have experience with: Collision repair Auto body repair Frame repair Paint preparation Automotive refinishing Body filler and primer application Sanding and blocking Masking Paint correction Buffing and polishing Automotive detailing Fiberglass repair Welding Insurance collision repairs Fleet vehicle repairs OEM repair procedures Industry certifications or formal automotive training are preferred but may not be required depending on experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including: Standing for extended periods. Bending, kneeling, reaching, and crouching. Working in confined areas of vehicles. Lifting and carrying automotive parts and equipment. Operating hand and power tools. Repeated sanding, polishing, cleaning, and preparation activities. Working around automotive chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and equipment while following required safety procedures. Reasonable accommodations may be considered where applicable.
