JOB TITLE
Body Shop Technician
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Repair, build, rebuild, and maintain transit buses and other district vehicles, as directed by the Maintenance Manager, and Shop Foremen. This position is capable of and can satisfactorily make, in a reasonable length of time, with a minimum amount of supervision, any and all repairs and services either major or minor, to such vehicles or equipment as maybe assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work under the direct supervision of the Shop Foremen, Maintenance Manager, and Executive Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. o Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. o Assesses vehicle damage, determines necessary repair(s), and provides a cost estimate if needed for repair(s). o Prepares formal estimates to be submitted to insurance companies when needed o Repairs, rebuilds, fabricates, paints, welds, and replaces all parts necessary to the body of transit buses and district vehicles. o Communicates vital information to the Shop Foreman on a daily basis, or as requested such as: § The status of projects and work orders § Additional repairs that may be needed § Any difficulties or problems that may prevent a quality job from being performed or cause a change in the promised time. § Other information as necessary o Must obtain and properly maintain sufficient tools to perform all tasks related to all items listed in this job description. o Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer. o Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, paint thinners, and other hazardous materials. o Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. o Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.
QUALIFICATIONS
o HS Diploma or GED, required. Completion of technical school in related area, desired. o Minimum of five (5) years verifiable professional experience in heavy truck/bus body shop work and o Must have five (5) years of demonstrated experience in each of the following areas: paint, fabricating, welding, and fiberglass work, Automotive experience is a plus and may be taken into account in lieu of diesel/heavy truck experience o Valid Illinois drivers license with clear, verifiable driving record. o Must have or be able to obtain a CDL with passenger and air brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of mud work to repair fiberglass and composite body structures. Knowledge and ability to use computer software and Microsoft Office Suite.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Must be able to stand and work a majority of the time as well as being able to climb stairs and or ladders. Must be able to operate a fork-lift, company vehicles (buses, and paratransit buses) and automobiles. Must be able to operate snow removal equipment as needed (snow blower and shovels). May be required to work outside during the winter months.
