Job Description

Cox Automotive is seeking a Body Shop Prepper to support high-quality collision and refinish work across its automotive remarketing and retail operations. In this role, you will prepare vehicle surfaces for paint by sanding, masking, cleaning, and applying primers and sealers according to OEM and shop standards. You'll inspect prior bodywork, perform minor repairs or filler work, and coordinate closely with painters, estimators, and technicians to meet quality and cycle-time goals. Working in a fast-paced, on-site body shop environment, you'll maintain tools and equipment, follow strict safety and environmental guidelines, and contribute to Cox Automotive's culture of integrity, collaboration, and innovation while helping deliver exceptional results for dealer and consumer customers. Responsibilities Prepare vehicle surfaces for paint by sanding, masking, and cleaning according to shop standards Inspect bodywork for imperfections and perform minor repairs or filler work as needed Mix and apply primers and sealers following OEM and shop specifications Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in safe, clean, and organized condition Follow safety protocols, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations Collaborate with painters, estimators, and technicians to meet quality and cycle-time goals Document work performed and communicate repair status with supervisors or team leads Use basic measuring and sanding tools, DA sanders, and other prep equipment Adhere to Cox Automotive quality standards and customer satisfaction expectations Participate in ongoing training and process improvement initiatives Required Skills Automotive body prep and sanding Masking and surface cleaning Primer and sealer application Use of DA sanders and prep tools Basic body filler and repair techniques Reading repair orders and work instructions Automotive refinishing processes Shop safety and PPE use Quality control inspection Time management in production environment
