Full-Time | Monday-Friday | Sedona, AZ | Local Driving Only We are looking for a dependable, hardworking person to join our small recycling team as a Processing Technician / Backup CDL Driver . This is not primarily a driving position. Approximately 90% of this job is hands-on work at our recycling facility, including processing recyclable materials, operating equipment, unloading trailers, keeping the yard organized, and helping wherever needed. The remaining portion of the role is serving as a trained backup CDL driver , covering local collection routes when our primary driver is out sick, on vacation, or otherwise unavailable. Because our team is only four people, who you are matters just as much as what you can do. We need someone who is reliable, trustworthy, easy to work with, and comfortable taking initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do next. Everyone on our team depends on one another, and we are looking for someone who wants to be an active part of that. What You'll Do Recycling Processing & Yard Work — Approximately 90% of the Position Process and prepare recyclable materials. Operate a forklift and other recycling equipment after training. Empty recycling bins and containers. Unload trailers and incoming material. Load trucks after completing required training. Assist on the material sorting line as needed. Keep the recycling yard clean, organized, safe, and functional. Help identify work that needs to be completed and take initiative to get it done. Develop a working knowledge of the entire recycling operation and assist in other areas when needed. Regular Local Collection Route — Monday & Friday Mornings A regular part of this position is completing one of our local recycling collection routes in our UD collection truck, which does not require a CDL . Complete the scheduled collection route each Monday and Friday morning. Service designated recycling locations according to the established route and schedule. Track completed service accurately. Empty collection containers and return them properly after service. Keep collection areas clean and orderly. Communicate any service issues or unusual conditions to the team. Safely operate and care for the collection vehicle. These routes generally take a few hours in the morning , after which you will return to the recycling facility and continue with processing and yard responsibilities. Backup CDL Driving — As Needed You will also be fully cross-trained on our CDL collection routes so you can provide dependable coverage for our primary CDL driver when needed.
Responsibilities include:
Operate a front-loader recycling truck. Follow established local collection routes and service schedules. Empty recycling dumpsters at community drop-off sites. Accurately track completed service. Clean up recycling sites as needed and make sure dumpster lids are secured after service. Communicate with the rest of the team to ensure collection sites are serviced on schedule. Perform routine vehicle inspections and communicate maintenance or service needs. Help keep the truck clean, safe, and ready for operation. •All routes are local. There is no overnight or long-haul driving. The Person We're Looking Fo r This position is a particularly good fit for someone who: Has a valid CDL and is comfortable operating a commercial vehicle. Is dependable and consistently shows up ready to work. Takes ownership of their work and can be trusted without constant supervision. Notices what needs to be done and gets started rather than waiting for instructions. Works well as part of a very small team. Communicates clearly and respectfully with coworkers. Is flexible and willing to help with different parts of the operation as needed. Is comfortable with a physically active job and genuinely enjoys hands-on work. Takes care of equipment and treats the workplace as if it matters. Is someone coworkers can count on—and enjoy working alongside. We do not expect every applicant to already know the recycling industry. Reliability, judgment, work ethic, attitude, and willingness to learn are extremely important to us. Physical Requirements This is an active, outdoor, industrial position.
Applicants must be able to:
Regularly perform physical labor throughout the workday. Lift and move heavy objects. Climb ladders and safely get in and out of trucks and equipment. Work outdoors in Sedona's summer heat, winter cold, wind, and other changing weather conditions. Safely operate equipment after appropriate training. Remain on their feet and active for much of the workday. Schedule 40 hours per week,
Monday-Friday Summer:
7:00 AM-3:00 PM Remainder of the year: 8:00 AM-4:00 PM Monday and Friday mornings: Scheduled local collection route in our non-CDL UD truck.
As needed:
Coverage of CDL collection routes when our primary driver is unavailable. Compensation & Benefits Starting pay: $24/hour One week of paid vacation per year during your first two years; two weeks per year beginning in your third year Six paid holidays each year, plus your birthday as a paid day off Monday-Friday daytime schedule Consistent full-time hours Local driving only No overnight routes Paid sick time Please note: As a small nonprofit organization, we do not currently offer employer-sponsored health insurance or a 401(k)/retirement plan. Work Location Sedona, Arizona - in person Applicants must be able to reliably commute to Sedona or relocate before beginning employment.
