$20 per hour Responsibilities & Duties The Fleet Vehicle Service Technician ensures Gospel Rescue Mission vehicles, trailers, generators, golf carts, and assigned mobile equipment are safe, dependable, properly maintained, and ready for use. This position performs inspections and preventive maintenance, coordinates outside repairs, maintains accurate service records, and verifies operational readiness before events, outreach activities, donation pickups, and other organizational needs. The role proactively identifies concerns to help prevent breakdowns, service interruptions, safety risks, and avoidable expenses. Fleet Inspections and Preventive Maintenance Conduct and document routine inspections of all assigned GRM vehicles, trailers, generators, golf carts, and mobile equipment. Develop, maintain, and follow a preventive maintenance schedule for every fleet asset. Monitor mileage, generator operating hours, service intervals, registrations, warranties, recalls, and upcoming maintenance dates. Perform or coordinate oil and filter changes, fluid checks, battery service, tire service, brake inspections, and other routine maintenance. Inspect tires, lights, brakes, batteries, belts, hoses, fluids, warning indicators, hitches, safety chains, breakaway systems, and other critical components. Identify concerns early, document needed repairs, and communicate service priorities to the Director of Operations. Remove unsafe or unreliable equipment from service and notify the Director of Operations immediately. Verify that registrations, insurance cards, fire extinguishers, emergency kits, and required safety items are present and current. Event and Outreach Readiness Review upcoming event, outreach, donation pickup, and transportation schedules to identify vehicle and equipment needs in advance. Complete and document pre-event inspections with enough lead time to correct concerns before equipment is scheduled to leave GRM property. Start and test generators under an appropriate operating load to verify reliable operation before events. Confirm fuel or propane, engine oil, batteries, electrical connections, tires, trailer lights, brakes, hitches, breakaway cables, safety chains, and related equipment are ready. Confirm that the assigned tow vehicle is appropriate for the trailer and that required towing and safety equipment is present. Provide a clear readiness status to the Director of Operations and event coordinator, including any limitations or unresolved concerns. Do not release a vehicle, trailer, generator, or other assigned asset for use when a known condition makes it unsafe or unreliable. Provide limited emergency assistance for fleet or equipment concerns during scheduled events when assigned. Repairs and Vendor Coordination Complete minor mechanical repairs and adjustments within the employee's training, authorization, and ability. Schedule repairs with approved mechanics, dealerships, tire shops, and other service providers when work requires outside expertise or equipment. Obtain approval before authorizing repairs outside established spending limits and obtain competitive quotes when directed. Transport vehicles or equipment to and from service appointments as needed and follow up to avoid unnecessary delays. Review completed work and test equipment, when appropriate, to confirm reported repairs were addressed. Track estimates, invoices, warranties, parts orders, outstanding repairs, vendor commitments, and equipment downtime. Fleet Records and Accountability Maintain an accurate inventory of vehicles, trailers, generators, golf carts, keys, fuel cards, and assigned equipment. Maintain a service file for each asset, including inspections, maintenance history, repairs, mileage, operating hours, costs, and upcoming service dates. Record work performed, parts used, vendor services, completion dates, and equipment downtime. Review vehicle sign-in and sign-out records and follow up on reported warning lights, damage, unusual operation, or mechanical concerns. Ensure generator-hour logs and other required equipment-use records are completed and use them to schedule service at required intervals. Provide regular fleet-status reports that identify assets ready for use, out of service, awaiting parts, scheduled for repair, or approaching a maintenance deadline. Recommend when equipment should be repaired, replaced, or removed from service based on safety, reliability, cost, condition, and operational need. Safety and Staff Support Follow GRM safety policies, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable transportation and equipment requirements. Support vehicle, trailer, generator, and equipment safety training for authorized staff. Ensure only properly authorized employees operate or tow GRM vehicles and equipment. Report accidents, damage, missing equipment, unsafe operation, and policy concerns promptly. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and handle fuel, oil, batteries, chemicals, and used parts according to safety procedures. Work cooperatively with departments while maintaining clear accountability for fleet maintenance and readiness.
