This position plays a crucial role in supporting our septic, plumbing, and drain service operations across the region. From safely transporting and disposing of wastewater to assisting with septic inspections, repairs, and maintenance, you'll help ensure each job runs efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate has a mechanical background , hands-on experience in septic or plumbing systems , and a valid CDL with tanker endorsements . You'll be a key part of our field support team — keeping equipment running, schedules on track, and customers satisfied. Key Responsibilities Safely operate vacuum/septic pump trucks, trailers, and service vehicles to haul and dispose of septic, grease, or wastewater in compliance with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and Environmental Health regulations. Perform septic pumping, inspections, and system maintenance alongside plumbing and drain technicians. Accurately locate, dig up, and expose septic lids, tanks, and system components using safe and proper techniques. Support septic system repairs and replacements , including job setup, testing, and cleanup. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete required DOT/Caltrans safety documentation. Troubleshoot or perform minor mechanical repairs on hoses, fittings, and vacuum equipment as needed. Maintain organized and accurate load logs, disposal manifests, mileage, and fuel records . Follow all DOT, Caltrans, and EPA disposal guidelines and maintain environmental compliance. Communicate proactively with dispatch, supervisors, and technicians to coordinate schedules and delivery routes. Maintain a clean, organized truck and uphold company vehicle maintenance standards. Represent Thompson Family Plumbing with professionalism and respect when engaging with customers and the community. Requirements Valid California Commercial Driver's License (CDL) — Class A with Tanker Endorsement (N) required. Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience , preferably operating vacuum or septic trucks. Prior experience in septic, plumbing, drain cleaning, or construction is required. Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform light maintenance or repairs. Knowledge of DOT, Caltrans, and environmental waste handling regulations . Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical labor in outdoor environments. Clean driving record and ability to pass drug and background checks. Dependable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
