We're looking for a skilled Fleet/Shop Mechanic to help maintain and repair our growing fleet of vehicles and equipment, ensuring our technicians have reliable tools to support mission-critical operations. Position Summary The Fleet/Shop Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of company vehicles, trailers, generators, and heavy equipment. This role plays a critical part in maximizing fleet reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting emergency response operations. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on company vehicles and heavy equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and cooling system issues.
Repair and maintain:
Diesel and gasoline service trucks, Utility trucks, Fuel trucks, Trailers, Forklifts, and generators and related support equipment Complete engine, transmission, brake, suspension, steering, and drivetrain repairs. Perform inspections to ensure DOT and company safety compliance. Maintain accurate maintenance records and repair documentation. Order and manage shop inventory, parts, and supplies. Keep the shop clean, organized, and operating safely. Respond to occasional emergency fleet repairs outside normal business hours. Coordinate with Fleet/Shop Manager and Operations to prioritize repairs. Ensure all work complies with OSHA and company safety standards. Requirements High School Diploma or GED preferred Experience of 5+ years with a stable work history Experience of 5+ years fleet, diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial mechanic experience. Experience of 5+ years for both gas/diesel vehicles and engine experience. Engine Diagnostic software experience. Focus on safe work practices and high quality while executing duties under minimal supervision. Accurately record all maintenance activity on Company documentation. Interactions with vehicle maintenance tracking software, work orders, and inventory management. Work Flow - Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and US DOT requirements for commercial vehicles. Ability to lift parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have own tools to perform the job. Ability to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) driver qualification policy requirements. Valid California Driver License with a clean driving record. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends Prompt daily attendance at the assigned work location. Work Environment Shop and outdoor work environments Exposure to weather conditions, machinery, noise, grease, and diesel equipment Occasional overtime and emergency response support Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting throughout the workday Desired Previous Job Experience ASE Certifications Class A or Class B CDL Welding and fabrication experience is a plus Experience working on utility trucks, generators, or construction equipment Forklift certification Technical training in mechanics, engine repair, powertrain, air brake systems, welding. Experience with Caterpillar, MTU, John Deere, Kubota, Volvo, Peterbilt Trucks, Cummins, Detroit engines, and Computer Service Diagnostics Tools. Small to large diesel generator sets.
