Responsible to: CEO Job Purpose To perform manual labor involved with upkeep and maintenance of fleet trucks, warehouse equipment, and Tri-CED's facility in general. This is a Teamster Union Local 70 position with full health, welfare, and pension benefits.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Report to work on time. Check for service orders and special notices at the driver trailer prior to fleet rollout. Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts. Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures. Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units, assesses the road reliability of every route vehicle. Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems. Ensures that vehicles are compliant with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards. Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting. Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications. Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. All of the above descriptions apply to all Tri-CED equipment including forklifts, front loaders and other rolling stock used in the warehouse and includes sorting equipment such as the baler, all conveyor belts, glass crushers, sorting screens and equipment in the Buy Back recycling center. Must have welding certification/experience. Physical Requirements Outdoor work subject to seasonal and adverse work conditions. Requires strenuous physical work/labor. Must be able to lift upwards of 150 pounds. With average daily weights of 50 pounds or more when replacing or removing parts from rolling stock such as trucks, fork lifts and front loaders. Must climb in, out of very tight spaces in the warehouse such as the baler and under conveyor belts and under trucks regularly for repair work; climb stairs, bending at the waist; reaching over above shoulders and horizontally; carrying; pushing and pulling; repeated movements of bending and stooping; frequent walking and standing for extended periods of time. Strenuous physical work including dexterity of hands and fingers to operate levers and constant use of feet and knees to control pedals and step down out and into trucks. Regular heavy lifting is a constant requirement. Good hand/eye coordination; subject to loud noise; regular exposure to fumes, dust outdoor air. Good communication skills and reading skills to obey traffic laws and overall health and safety of other workers and the public. Pre-employment medical exam required; update medical card annually; subject to drug/alcohol screening. Other duties as assigned according to the work required to ensure quality repairs.
