Job Summary In this role, you will perform state-mandated emissions inspections, run diagnostic tests, and ensure vehicles comply with California state smog standards. You will utilize specialized testing equipment, accurately log test results into the BAR system, and clearly communicate repair recommendations or test outcomes to both service advisors and guests. The ideal candidate holds an active California smog license, possesses strong mechanical aptitude, and is committed to delivering efficient, high-quality service while upholding strict regulatory compliance. Responsibilities Conduct state-mandated smog checks, visual inspections, and functional tests on vehicles using state-certified testing equipment Identify causes of emissions test failures, inspect exhaust and emission control systems, and determine necessary repairs to bring vehicles into compliance Accurately record inspection data, test results, and repair documentation into state databases and internal shop management systems Work alongside service advisors to clearly explain inspection results, failed test causes, and recommended corrective actions to vehicle owners Maintain, calibrate, and care for smog testing machinery and diagnostic tools to ensure peak operating efficiency and compliance with state regulations Qualifications Active California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Smog Check Inspector License required (Repair License preferred) 1-3+ years of experience in automotive repair and emissions testing Strong proficiency with diagnostic scanners, gas analyzers, and engine control systems ASE A6 (Electrical), A8 (Engine Performance), and L1 (Advanced Engine Performance) preferred High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and physical capability to handle standard shop tasks Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required Benefits We offer one of the most competitive Benefits packages in the industry to all full-time team members as well as part-time team members who are deemed eligible based on a minimum hours requirement.
