The Rust Doctor, LLC - Grand Junction, Colorado The Rust Doctor is seeking an experienced Restoration Mechanic / Automotive Electrical Technician to join our team. This position is intended for an experienced technician with a strong mechanical background and advanced knowledge of automotive electrical systems . We work on classic, vintage, custom, and restoration vehicles where troubleshooting often requires more than simply plugging in a scan tool. The right candidate must be comfortable diagnosing electrical and mechanical problems, working with older vehicle systems, installing modern components into classic vehicles, and completing high-quality restoration work.

Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and electrical schematics Strong electrical diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities Experience using multimeters, test lights, circuit testing equipment, and other diagnostic tools Ability to diagnose shorts, opens, excessive resistance, grounding problems, parasitic draws, and other electrical faults Experience repairing, modifying, and building automotive wiring Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills Ability to work independently and accurately diagnose problems Must take pride in workmanship and attention to detail Must be dependable and able to complete assigned work efficiently Must provide verifiable employment/work history and references

EXPERIENCE WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Experience with some or all of the following is highly preferred: Classic and vintage vehicle restoration Complete or partial vehicle rewiring Custom wiring harness installation and modification Engine and transmission installation Fuel and ignition systems Charging and starting systems Lighting and accessory circuits Gauges and instrumentation Power windows, power locks, and other electrical accessories Vintage and aftermarket HVAC systems EFI and engine-management systems Aftermarket electronic components Modern drivetrain/electrical conversions Suspension, steering, and brake systems Mechanical diagnosis and repair Electrical troubleshooting on modified vehicles Integration of modern electronics into classic vehicles

WHAT WE EXPECT

We are looking for someone who can diagnose problems—not just replace parts . Restoration work frequently involves vehicles that have been modified, previously repaired, partially disassembled, or wired differently from factory specifications. Candidates must be able to think through problems, trace circuits, identify previous workmanship issues, and develop reliable solutions. Attention to detail is extremely important. Our customers trust us with vehicles that may have significant financial and sentimental value, and we expect our technicians to treat every vehicle accordingly.
