Job Description
The Fleet Services Assistant Director supports the leadership and management of the County's Fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, parts, fueling systems, and related support services to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. Working closely with the Fleet Services Director, this role supports employees, strengthens service delivery, improves processes, and helps ensure efficient day-to-day operations across multiple departments. This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys solving problems, building strong working relationships, supporting teams, and improving systems and operations. The work is fast-paced, hands-on, and highly collaborative, with priorities that can shift quickly based on operational needs. Safety is a strong part of the culture, both in shop and field environments, and success in this role comes from working closely with employees, departments, vendors, and partner agencies to provide responsive and dependable fleet services. The typical scheduler for this position is in-person, Monday - Friday. In the office, shop, or fuel sites. What you'll be doing: Helping lead maintenance shop, parts, and fueling operations to keep vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for daily use. Building strong working relationships with departments to improve communication, service, and responsiveness. Supporting managers and employees through guidance, coaching, training, and clear performance expectations. Ensuring preventive maintenance, repairs, warranty work, and recalls are completed effectively and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Coordinating parts purchasing, inventory, and distribution to meet operational needs while maintaining cost awareness. Supporting fuel site operations, vendor partnerships, compliance requirements, reporting, and alternative fuel initiatives. Assisting with operating and capital budgets, monitoring spending, and identifying opportunities for efficiency and savings. Reviewing data and performance metrics to identify concerns, improve processes, and strengthen service delivery. Experience with fleet operations, including maintenance, fueling systems, asset management, budgeting, and operational planning. The ability to balance day-to-day operational needs with long-term planning and continuous improvement efforts. Adaptability and confidence leading through change in a fast-paced environment. Emotional intelligence includes active listening, self-awareness, and the ability to navigate challenges with professionalism and empathy. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and keep operations moving forward. All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process. Five (5) years of experience in public personnel management, a directly related field, or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required. Two (2) years of supervisory experience required. Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
