Experienced Automotive Technician SAF-T Auto Centers | Wallingford, CT $30-$45 per hour | Full-time | 42.5 hours per week Monday through Friday | No weekends SAF-T Auto Centers is looking for an experienced automotive technician with strong diagnostic ability who can take a vehicle from the reported concern through testing, repair, and verification. Our first choice is an A-level technician who can independently diagnose electrical and drivability problems and perform quality mechanical repairs. We will also consider an exceptional B-level technician who already handles everyday repairs and routine diagnosis independently, has strong electrical fundamentals, and is ready to build on that ability. We offer hourly pay, paid training, insurance benefits, a 401(k) with matching, and weekends off. We are a family-owned independent repair business founded in 1978 and serving Wallingford since 1991. Our work includes general automotive repair, electrical and drivability diagnosis, digital vehicle inspections, and in-house ADAS calibration. The technician we are looking for Our ideal candidate can work through electrical and drivability concerns, interpret wiring diagrams and scan data, choose tests that narrow down the cause, and verify the result. You should be comfortable explaining what the evidence shows and when additional testing is needed. Every candidate should have professional repair experience beyond oil changes, tires, and routine maintenance, and should already be able to: Independently handle common brake, steering, suspension, wheel-bearing, and cooling-system repairs using the appropriate procedures. Use a scan tool and relevant vehicle data to investigate a concern and choose the next diagnostic test. Read basic wiring diagrams, use a digital multimeter, and perform routine power, ground, starting, and charging-system checks. Record clear inspection findings, diagnostic results, and repair recommendations. Verify that your completed repair addressed the original concern and document how you checked it. Keep work organized and communicate promptly when additional findings or obstacles could affect completion. If you are a B-level technician, you should already meet these everyday repair and testing expectations. We can consider support needs on more difficult diagnostic cases. This opening requires demonstrated repair ability beyond an entry-level or maintenance-only role. Advanced network diagnosis, ADAS, light-duty diesel, and manufacturer training are valued additional skills. ASE certifications are preferred. We also consider technicians who demonstrate equivalent practical ability through their experience and our technical review. Your work at SAF-T You will inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair cars, SUVs, and light trucks. You will work with service advisors by providing the findings and recommendations they need to communicate accurately with customers. We expect efficient work and careful workmanship together. A repair is complete when it has been checked appropriately, and limitations or unresolved concerns need to be brought forward.
