POSITION POSTING MECHANIC
Under the direction of the Highway Superintendent and the Senior Mechanic, this position is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all the vehicles and equipment maintained by the Department of Public Works. This position also plows and sands Town roads.
Essential Functions:
  • Physically performs major and minor repairs on department vehicles (diesel and gasoline engines) and on all types of construction equipment;
  • Plans, schedules, and physically performs preventive maintenance for department vehicles and equipment;
  • Operates all department-maintained vehicles and equipment safely and effectively, using the required coordination, strength, and agility;
  • Manually opens a heavy, seventy-five (75) pound pivoting hood on a truck for inspection and maintenance;
  • Physically climbs up on vehicles, equipment, and ladders to heights of approximately fourteen (14) feet above ground level;
  • Crawls under and bends into engine compartments and other difficult to reach places on or in a vehicle;
  • Maintains vehicle and equipment service logs to monitor service costs;
  • Monitors the inventory of parts and supplies and keeps appropriate inventory records;
  • Operates a large, manual transmission dump truck with plow and sander;
  • At the request of the Director of Department of Public Works, makes recommendations to Highway Superintendent and Public Works Director regarding purchase of new department vehicles and equipment; and
  • Performs additional related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements:
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED;
  • Must have at least five (5) years experience as a diesel engine mechanic; and
  • Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
