Job Description
Job Summary The Heavy Equipment/Truck Mechanic is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all types of construction equipment & trucks. Diesel- and gas-powered engines, vehicles and other types of industrial equipment. Possesses demonstrated moderate-level skill for any/all types of tasks repairing and maintaining all types of equipment & trucks. Job Duties and Responsibilities Performs electronic diagnostics to effectively troubleshoot and repair diesel and gas-powered engines, machinery, and equipment. Communicates diagnostic findings and makes plans of action for addressing findings. Tests vehicles, machinery, and equipment to diagnose problems and ensure they operate properly. Repairs or replaces vehicle engines, transmissions, braking systems etc., as necessary. Performs preventive maintenance and inspects vehicles, machinery, and equipment. Completes repair order paperwork. Submits detailed records of serviced vehicles, machinery, and equipment to Foreman upon completion of a job. Adheres to an inspection procedure checklist. Always ensures cleanliness of workstation for safe operations. Must be able to travel to the jobsite(s) as assigned by the Foreman or other supervisor(s). Performs other assignments as required. Qualifications High School degree or GED required. 3+ years' experience working as Mechanic on Light/Heavy Duty Equipment & Trucks required. Related mechanical certifications preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Possesses moderate level of accomplishment repairing all types of equipment & trucks. Knowledge of gas/diesel engines as well as electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems and components of heavy equipment required. 3+ years' experience performing diagnostics and repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles preferred. Reading and understanding technical service manuals required. Ability to prioritize and organize effectively. Strong time management skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees. Competent use of Microsoft Office suite applications: Word‚ Excel‚ PDF Editor or comparable. Provides analytical knowledge to resolve issues and interpret or summarize information. Ability to successfully work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The job offers some flexibility for determining how to organize work activities which are periodically reviewed by Shop Manager. Ability to make decisions on safe/unsafe working conditions and within company guidelines and standards. Willingness to learn new skills as dictated by the company. Working Conditions Involves work for heavy civil construction company where duties can potentially be performed in both indoor/outdoor/daytime/nighttime working conditions. Employee can be exposed to equipment/vehicle hazards, heights/subsurface levels, dust/fumes, chemicals, confined spaces, traffic hazards, loud noise levels and outside weather conditions related to Mid-Atlantic region. Fit for duty including physical requirements of standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, verbally communicating, hearing, sitting and occasionally lifting/moving approximately 75 pounds. Must be able to travel to the jobsite(s) assigned.
