Job Description
- Job Title: Steam Mechanic
- Pay: $30-34/hour
- Location: Jacksonville, Florida, 32258
- Shift: Monday - Friday 7:30am-4pm
- Job Summary
- We are seeking a skilled Steam & Medical Gas Systems Mechanic to join our Facilities Operations team in a hospital environment.
This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, inspection, and safe operation of critical utility systems, including steam boilers, steam distribution equipment, and medical gas systems. The ideal candidate will have experience troubleshooting mechanical systems, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with healthcare facility standards and safety regulations.
- Key Responsibilities
- + Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair steam boilers, pressure-reducing stations, steam distribution systems, condensate return systems, and associated equipment.
+ Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on hospital medical gas systems, including oxygen, medical air, nitrous oxide, vacuum, and related distribution systems.
+ Conduct routine inspections of boilers, piping, valves, pumps, compressors, regulators, and other critical infrastructure to ensure reliable operation.
+ Monitor system performance and respond to alarms, failures, and emergency situations to minimize disruptions to patient care.
+ Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs using a variety of hand and power tools.
+ Assist with testing, certification activities, and compliance requirements for medical gas and steam systems.
+ Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders through the facility's maintenance management system.
+ Support facility improvement projects, equipment upgrades, and system shutdowns as needed.
+ Follow all hospital safety policies, infection control procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Required Qualifications
- + Experience maintaining and repairing steam boilers, steam distribution systems, and related mechanical equipment.
+ Experience working with medical gas systems in a healthcare, industrial, or similar critical environment.
+ Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
+ Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools.
+ Knowledge of piping systems, valves, pumps, compressors, and pressure systems.
+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
+ Ability to work independently and respond effectively to urgent maintenance needs.
- Preferred Qualifications
- + Prior experience in a hospital or healthcare facility. + Medical Gas Certification (ASSE 6040 or equivalent) preferred. + Boiler Operator or Stationary Engineer license/certification preferred. + Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). + Knowledge of applicable healthcare facility codes and regulations.

- Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $30.
00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
