Job Description

Clean Harbors is seeking a Lead Vehicle Mechanic to oversee maintenance and repair of our diverse fleet supporting environmental and industrial services. In this role, you will diagnose and fix mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on trucks and heavy equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure DOT and safety compliance. You'll mentor mechanics, coordinate work orders, manage records, and collaborate with operations to keep vehicles safe, reliable, and ready for critical environmental projects. Responsibilities Lead maintenance and repair of company vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and perform or oversee corrective repairs Coordinate, schedule, and prioritize work orders to minimize downtime for fleet assets Perform and document preventive maintenance inspections in compliance with DOT and company standards Supervise and mentor mechanics, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to safety procedures Maintain accurate maintenance records, parts usage, and service logs in fleet management systems Collaborate with operations and safety teams to align vehicle readiness with job and regulatory requirements Assist with parts ordering, inventory control, and vendor coordination for specialized repairs Required Skills Heavy duty truck repair Diesel engine diagnostics Hydraulic systems maintenance Electrical systems troubleshooting Preventive maintenance scheduling DOT and safety compliance Fleet management software usage Brake and suspension repair Welding and fabrication basics Technical documentation and recordkeeping
