Seeking experienced Automotive Mechanic or Related - Servicing Aircraft Landing Gear Overhaul Job Description This role focuses on repairing and overhauling aircraft landing gear by leveraging strong automotive repair and mechanical assembly experience. You will read and interpret prints, perform precision measurements, and use a variety of hand tools to inspect, disassemble, repair, and reassemble complex mechanical and hydraulic components. The position offers cross-training from automotive systems into specialized aircraft landing gear systems in a structured backshop environment. Responsibilities Repair and overhaul aircraft landing gear components by applying prior experience with brakes, engines, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Perform mechanical assembly and disassembly of landing gear parts using detailed prints, work instructions, and technical documentation. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings to ensure accurate assembly, alignment, and fit of components. Use calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools daily to perform accurate measurements, inspections, and calibrations. Diagnose mechanical issues using troubleshooting techniques and engine diagnostics skills to identify root causes and determine appropriate repairs. Work on systems comparable to automotive brakes, fuel systems, transmissions, and suspensions, adapting those skills to landing gear applications. Handle hydraulic and pneumatic components safely and effectively, including inspection, repair, and functional testing. Use basic hand tools and shop equipment to perform routine repairs, adjustments, and maintenance on mechanical assemblies. Follow established procedures and quality standards to ensure all work meets safety, regulatory, and performance requirements. Document work performed, including measurements, repairs, and parts used, in accordance with shop and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with other technicians and support personnel to coordinate repairs, share technical knowledge, and resolve complex issues. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all shop safety practices and guidelines. Essential Skills Minimum 2+ years of automotive repair experience focused on brakes, engines, hydraulic, and pneumatic components. Proven mechanical assembly experience with the ability to build, disassemble, and reassemble complex mechanical systems. Ability to read and interpret prints, drawings, and technical documentation accurately. Daily proficiency using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments. Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in repair and troubleshooting of mechanical systems. Experience with hydraulic systems, including inspection, repair, and maintenance. Experience with engine diagnostics and related troubleshooting processes. Experience performing brake system maintenance, fuel system work, transmission repairs, and suspension work. Competent use of basic hand tools in a shop environment. Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to established processes and quality standards. Capability to work full-time in a backshop environment on a Monday-Friday day shift. No reliance on freelance-only mechanic experience; candidates must have structured, verifiable hands-on experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on components similar to landing gear within aviation, recreational vehicles, boats, military fleets, or ground support equipment. Familiarity with calibration processes for precision tools and mechanical assemblies. Exposure to hydraulics and pneumatics beyond automotive applications is beneficial. The shop uses standard mechanical tools, including calipers, micrometers, hand tools, and other precision measuring equipment, in a setting where safety, organization, and adherence to procedures are emphasized. You can expect a hands-on, tool-intensive environment with a focus on quality workmanship and teamwork. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Titusville, FL.
