This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in quality workmanship, and wants the flexibility of a small, family-owned company. This individual will be responsible for keeping our trucks safe, reliable, and road-ready while managing the day-to-day maintenance program for the fleet. There are no supervisory responsibilities—just the opportunity to take ownership of the shop and maintenance process. Primary Responsibilities Fleet Maintenance & Repair Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil and filter changes, chassis lubrication, and inspection of all vehicle systems. Diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brake systems, suspension, steering, drivetrain, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Service and repair Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, Freightliner, and similar heavy-duty trucks. Inspect, repair, and replace brakes, suspension components, steering components, and driveline parts. Troubleshoot and repair dump bodies, hydraulic hoists, PTO systems, and lift cylinders. Mount, repair, rotate, and replace heavy truck tires while monitoring tread wear and air pressure. Perform DOT inspections and ensure all vehicles meet FMCSA safety standards. Perform minor welding and fabrication repairs or coordinate outside welding services when necessary. Identify potential issues before they become costly breakdowns. Fleet Maintenance Coordination Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for the fleet. Keep accurate repair and maintenance records for each truck. Manage inventory of filters, fluids, tires, shop supplies, and replacement parts. Order parts from vendors while maintaining cost-effective inventory levels. Coordinate specialized repairs with outside vendors when necessary. Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe. Independent Responsibilities Prioritize repairs based on operational needs. Recommend repair-versus-replacement decisions to maximize reliability and control costs. Communicate major repairs and maintenance recommendations to ownership. Work independently with minimal supervision while taking pride in maintaining a dependable fleet. Qualifications Three or more years of experience as a diesel or heavy truck mechanic. Experience working on Class 7 or Class 8 trucks preferred. Experience with dump trucks, hydraulic systems, and hauling equipment is a plus. Ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Comfortable working independently and managing daily priorities. Valid driver's license required. CDL Class A or B is a plus but not required. Physical Requirements Frequently lift up to 75 pounds. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and work underneath heavy equipment. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Safely operate shop equipment, hoists, jacks, welders, and power tools.
