Gem State Trailers is looking for a dependable, experienced, hands-on technician to lead our installation and service work. This position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical knowledge who can install truck beds, diagnose trailer problems, perform repairs, manage daily shop workflow, and confidently tow, retrieve, and deliver trailers. We need someone who can look at a problem, determine what needs to be done, and complete the work correctly without constant supervision. Quality, safety, organization, and follow-through are essential. Key ResponsibilitiesTruck Bed Installation and Trailer Repair Install steel and aluminum pickup-truck flatbeds, including Bradford Built, Norstar, and similar brands Remove factory pickup beds and prepare trucks for flatbed installation Complete wiring, lighting, fuel-fill, hitch, camera, and sensor-related installation work Diagnose and repair trailer bearings, hubs, brakes, axles, suspension, wiring, lighting, jacks, and couplers Perform preventative maintenance and general trailer service Complete light-to-moderate fabrication and custom modifications Inspect completed work for safety, function, and quality Trailer Transport and Lot Support Safely connect, inspect, tow, back, park, and maneuver different types and sizes of trailers Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections Help organize and move inventory around the dealership Shop Leadership and Operations Coordinate daily shop workflow and keep installs and repairs on schedule Prepare new trailer inventory for sale Identify and source necessary parts and materials Assist with repair quotes and service estimates Communicate clearly about job progress, parts needs, and potential delays Maintain shop tools, equipment, service vehicles, and installation supplies Keep the shop and work areas clean, safe, and organized Assist with general facility upkeep, including snow removal when necessary Qualifications Strong mechanical background in trailers, truck accessories, automotive repair, equipment repair, or a related field Experience with bearings, hubs, brakes, axles, suspension, and 12-volt wiring Truck-bed or flatbed installation experience is strongly preferred Light-to-moderate welding and fabrication ability Confident towing, backing, connecting, and maneuvering trailers Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company insurance requirements Ability to diagnose problems and work independently Ability to read measurements, use shop tools, and follow installation specifications Good communication, organization, and time-management skills Dependable, safety-minded, and willing to take ownership of the work Must be able to perform physical shop work, including standing, bending, climbing, working underneath vehicles, and lifting up to 75 pounds; team lifting or equipment will be used for heavier items What Success Looks Like Installations and repairs are completed correctly and safely Customer and inventory jobs remain on schedule Trailers are transported without damage or safety issues Tools, parts, and work areas remain organized Problems are communicated early—not after they create delays The technician takes pride in workmanship and supports the overall success of the team Compensation Pay is based on experience, mechanical ability, fabrication skills, and the ability to work independently. The position includes an hourly base rate with opportunities for higher earnings or production incentives on qualifying customer-paid installation and repair work.
