Job Description
Automotive & Heavy Equipment MechanicJob Overview Roots Landscape is looking for a dependable and experienced Automotive & Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our growing team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining company vehicles, trucks, trailers, and landscape equipment to keep our operations running safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is a skilled, self-motivated mechanic who can work independently, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, and take pride in keeping equipment in excellent working condition. Key Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain company vehicles, trucks, trailers, and landscape equipment. Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections to identify potential issues before they become major repairs. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel-related problems. Repair and maintain engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, steering components, and other mechanical systems. Perform oil changes, brake service, battery replacement, and other routine maintenance. Use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and shop equipment safely and efficiently. Read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and manufacturer specifications. Diagnose and repair diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment. Perform emergency or field repairs when necessary. Quickly assess repair needs and make sound decisions regarding immediate repairs, future repairs, and preventative maintenance. Identify potential mechanical problems before they result in equipment downtime or costly repairs. Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts used. Keep the shop, tools, and work areas clean and organized. Follow all company safety procedures and manufacturer recommendations. Qualifications & Experience Previous professional experience as an automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanic preferred. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Must be punctual, dependable, and able to arrive on time and ready to work. Must have and maintain your own professional mechanic tools. Experience working on trucks, trailers, diesel equipment, or construction/landscape equipment is a plus. Knowledge of automotive electrical systems and hydraulic systems preferred. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding equipment. Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics. Strong decision-making skills with the ability to quickly determine the best course of action for repairs and future maintenance needs. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work independently and manage multiple repairs and maintenance tasks. Valid driver's license required. CDL is a plus but not required. Experience with GM vehicles and heavy-duty equipment is preferred but not required.
