Experienced Technician Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and dependable Automotive Mechanic who can accurately diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of vehicles. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working independently, performing advanced diagnostics, completing repairs efficiently, and maintaining a high standard of workmanship. This position requires strong mechanical knowledge, diagnostic ability, attention to detail, and the ability to properly document vehicle concerns and completed repairs. Primary Job Duties Diagnose mechanical, electrical, drivability, and vehicle performance concerns. Use professional scan tools, diagnostic equipment, wiring diagrams, service information, and testing equipment to accurately identify vehicle problems. Perform complete vehicle inspections and identify needed or recommended repairs. Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, fluid services, filters, belts, hoses, batteries, and tune-ups. Diagnose and repair engine performance and drivability problems. Perform engine repairs including timing components, cylinder heads, valve train components, gaskets, internal engine repairs, and engine replacement. Diagnose and repair cooling systems including radiators, water pumps, thermostats, hoses, fans, and related components. Diagnose and repair transmission and drivetrain concerns. Replace or repair transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, CV axles, driveshafts, wheel bearings, and related components. Diagnose and repair suspension and steering systems including control arms, ball joints, tie rods, struts, shocks, steering racks, and related components. Perform brake inspections and repairs including pads, rotors, calipers, brake hoses, master cylinders, and hydraulic system repairs. Diagnose and repair air-conditioning and heating systems. Diagnose electrical problems including starting, charging, lighting, wiring, modules, sensors, switches, and communication/network concerns. Perform electrical testing using multimeters, test lights, scan tools, and other appropriate diagnostic equipment. Remove and replace major vehicle components when required. Perform road tests before and/or after repairs to verify customer concerns and confirm proper operation. Follow manufacturer specifications, torque procedures, repair information, and accepted industry repair practices. Maintain accurate records of diagnostic findings, repairs performed, parts used, and additional repairs recommended. Communicate with the service manager or shop management regarding diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, parts requirements, and job progress. Notify management of additional problems discovered during repairs before performing unauthorized work. Keep tools, equipment, lifts, and work areas clean and organized. Properly care for customer vehicles and protect interiors and exterior surfaces while performing repairs. Follow shop safety procedures and properly use lifts, jacks, jack stands, power tools, chemicals, and other equipment. Complete assigned repairs accurately and within a reasonable industry-standard timeframe. Perform quality-control checks before returning completed vehicles. Assist other technicians when necessary and contribute to an efficient team environment. Required Qualifications Previous professional automotive repair experience. Strong understanding of modern automotive mechanical and electrical systems. Ability to independently diagnose vehicle problems rather than relying solely on parts replacement. Ability to read wiring diagrams and service information. Experience using professional automotive scan and diagnostic equipment. Ability to perform both routine maintenance and major mechanical repairs. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to safely road-test customer vehicles. Must have dependable transportation and reliable attendance. Must be able to safely lift automotive components and work underneath vehicles. Must be able to work effectively without constant supervision. Performance Expectations An experienced technician is expected to accurately diagnose vehicles, minimize unnecessary parts replacement, complete repairs correctly the first time, maintain reasonable productivity, properly document work, communicate problems promptly, and take responsibility for the quality of completed repairs. Technicians are expected to treat customer vehicles professionally, maintain a clean and safe work environment, and follow shop procedures at all times.
