Job Description

High-Volume Used Car Dealership | Owensboro, KY Vantacar is looking for an experienced Automotive Diagnostic / Master Technician with strong electrical diagnostic and mechanical repair skills. This is not a parts-changing position. This position is heavily focused on advanced electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting , with the ability to complete the necessary repairs once the problem is identified. We are NOT looking for a parts changer. We need someone who can start at the fuse box, wiring diagram, or scan tool and systematically trace a problem until the actual cause is found.
ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC EXPERIENCE
You should be highly experienced with: Fuse box, fuse, and relay diagnostics Shorts to ground and open circuits Voltage-drop testing Parasitic battery draws Wiring and harness problems Ground and power-supply issues Intermittent electrical problems No-start / no-crank diagnosis Battery, alternator, and starting systems Sensors, switches, and actuators Module and communication problems CAN-bus/network diagnostics Reading wiring diagrams and electrical schematics Tracing circuits from beginning to end Connector, terminal, and pin-out testing Diagnosing multiple warning lights and electrical faults Using scan-tool live data and bi-directional controls Pulling a trouble code is not diagnosing a vehicle. We want someone who understands WHY a circuit or component isn't working and knows how to prove the failure before replacing parts.
PROFESSIONAL DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS
Applicants should have their own professional technician tools and be experienced using equipment such as: Professional bi-directional scan tool Quality digital multimeter (DVOM) Power Probe or equivalent Automotive test lights Back-probe and terminal test kits Amp clamp / current measuring equipment Battery and charging-system tester Parasitic-draw testing equipment Electrical connector and terminal tools Wire repair, crimping, and soldering equipment Experience with an automotive oscilloscope/lab scope, CAN-bus testing, J2534 programming, module programming/coding, and advanced network diagnostics is a major plus.
REPAIR ABILITY
Although electrical diagnostics are the primary focus, you must be capable of making the repairs you diagnose. That may include wiring and connector repair, fuse/relay problems, starters, alternators, sensors, modules, switches, harnesses, electrical accessories, and general mechanical repairs when required. Repairs should be performed correctly, cleanly, and professionally —not temporary shortcuts.
INSPECTION & ACCOUNTABILITY
Every vehicle follows a written inspection and repair process:
ROAD TEST
→ INSPECT → SCAN →
DIAGNOSE
→ REPAIR → VERIFY →
FINAL ROAD TEST
SIGN OFF
You will be responsible for completing the appropriate inspection/repair checklist as work is performed. If you sign off on a vehicle, you're putting your name behind the diagnosis and repair.
