We are looking for a highly experienced Automotive Shop Foreman / Service Manager who can take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the shop. We are looking for someone with strong automotive diagnostic knowledge, leadership ability, customer service and sales skills, and previous experience helping run an independent automotive repair shop . The right candidate must be comfortable managing technicians, reviewing diagnoses, diagnosing vehicles, speaking with customers, selling repairs, preparing estimates and invoices, and keeping the shop operating efficiently from opening through closing. Responsibilities Open and close the repair facility and oversee daily shop operations. Manage workflow and dispatch repair orders to technicians based on skill level and workload. Supervise, assist, and provide technical direction to automotive technicians. Review technician diagnoses and verify recommended repairs before presenting them to customers. Diagnose difficult electrical, mechanical, drivability, emissions, and check-engine-light concerns . Perform and assist with OBD-II/emissions diagnostics, including trouble codes, readiness monitors, misfires, EVAP, fuel control, sensors, wiring, communication issues, and related problems. Read and interpret wiring diagrams and use scan tools, DVOMs, diagnostic equipment, and service information. Perform quality-control inspections and road tests when necessary. Communicate directly with customers and clearly explain vehicle problems and recommended repairs. Prepare estimates, obtain customer authorization, sell necessary repairs and maintenance services, and complete invoices. Answer customer calls, schedule work, provide updates, and perform follow-up calls. Handle customer concerns and resolve repair-related issues professionally. Monitor technician productivity, repair quality, and workflow. Help prevent comebacks by ensuring proper diagnosis and quality control. Manage parts and shop inventory as needed. Maintain an organized, professional, and productive shop environment. Use Mitchell 1 shop management software for repair orders, estimates, customer authorization, and invoicing. Required Qualifications 5+ years of professional automotive repair industry experience. Previous experience as a Shop Foreman, Service Manager, Lead Technician, Automotive Manager, or similar leadership position. Independent automotive repair shop experience strongly preferred. Strong hands-on automotive diagnostic experience. Strong electrical diagnostic skills, including wiring diagrams and circuit testing. Strong mechanical and drivability diagnostic knowledge. Knowledge of OBD-II and emissions-related diagnostic procedures. Ability to diagnose vehicles rather than simply replace parts based on trouble codes. Ability to manage and direct multiple technicians and repair orders simultaneously. Strong automotive service sales and customer communication skills. Ability to explain complicated repairs to customers in simple terms. Comfortable recommending and selling needed repairs and maintenance. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Dependable, organized, professional, and able to take responsibility for the shop's daily operation. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Mitchell 1 Manager SE or similar automotive shop management software. Massachusetts State Inspection / emissions experience. ASE certifications, especially advanced diagnostic certifications. Previous experience managing a busy independent repair facility. Experience diagnosing multiple makes and models, including domestic, Asian, and European vehicles.
