Job Description
Job Overview Join a Dealership with Deep GM Roots and Nearly a Century of Success Applegate Chevrolet, a family-owned dealership serving the Flint community since 1928, is looking for a highly skilled GM Certified Technician to join our growing service team. We are seeking an experienced professional who brings advanced diagnostic capabilities, strong mechanical expertise, and the desire to become a key contributor in a dealership where talent is recognized and rewarded. While our greatest need is for a GM-certified Transmission Technician, we're looking for someone who is willing and able to do more than transmissions alone. The ideal candidate can confidently diagnose and repair all vehicle systems, including drivability concerns, electrical issues, engine performance, chassis, suspension, HVAC, and advanced technology systems. This is an excellent opportunity to be the "big fish in a small pond." At Applegate Chevrolet, you'll have the ability to make a significant impact, help shape the future of our service department, and become the go-to expert within a close-knit team environment. As our dealership continues to grow, you'll have opportunities for advancement, leadership, and the ability to influence the next generation of technicians through our developing apprenticeship and technician training program. If you're passionate about GM products, take pride in fixing vehicles right the first time, and want to work for a dealership that values expertise, teamwork, and long-term career growth, we'd love to talk with you. Sign-on bonus available for the right candidate. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair complex vehicle concerns across all major systems, including automatic transmissions, engines, drivability, electrical, suspension, steering, braking, HVAC, and advanced vehicle technologies. Serve as a technical expert within the shop, utilizing GM service information, factory diagnostic equipment, and proven troubleshooting processes to accurately identify and resolve customer concerns. Perform advanced transmission diagnosis, repair, overhaul, and replacement on GM vehicles, while contributing across all areas of the service department as needed. Complete customer-pay, warranty, and internal repairs with a focus on quality, efficiency, and first-time fix accuracy. Diagnose and repair electrical and network communication issues, ADAS systems, engine performance concerns, and complex drivability problems. Collaborate with service advisors, fellow technicians, and apprentices to provide exceptional customer experiences and support the development of the next generation of technicians. Stay current with GM training, certifications, and emerging vehicle technologies, including EV and advanced driver assistance systems. Maintain accurate repair documentation and clearly communicate diagnostic findings and recommended repairs. Take pride in maintaining a clean, organized, and professional work environment while properly caring for dealership equipment and personal tools. Contribute to a positive, growing team culture where technical expertise, mentorship, and continuous improvement are valued. Requirements Current GM Certifications required. ASE certifications are a plus. Proven success as an Automotive Technician in a dealership or professional automotive repair environment. Strong diagnostic ability with demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex drivability, electrical, engine performance, and transmission concerns. Extensive knowledge of GM vehicle systems, repair procedures, factory service information, and diagnostic equipment. Hands-on experience repairing and diagnosing automatic transmissions, powertrain systems, electrical systems, steering and suspension, braking systems, HVAC, ADAS, and emerging vehicle technologies. Ability to perform advanced diagnostics and repairs with minimal supervision while maintaining a high first-time fix rate. Must possess and maintain a complete set of professional automotive tools required to perform the duties of an A-Level Technician. Experience using modern scan tools, diagnostic software, oscilloscopes, specialty service equipment, and electronic repair resources. Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering quality repairs and exceptional customer satisfaction. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and safety. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Willingness to participate in ongoing GM training, certification updates, and mentorship opportunities through our apprenticeship program. Ready for Something Better?
