R.W Mercer Co. is a family-owned construction and Service Company headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, with seven locations - six in Michigan and one in Indiana. The company operates in three distinct areas of construction: petroleum contracting, service/compliance, general contracting, and electrical. In each area, R.W. Mercer provides a turn-key approach that includes planning, design, construction, and installation as well as service, monitoring, and maintenance. The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing company vehicles and equipment to support daily operations. This position helps ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and available for use across all company divisions.

REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform routine maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on company-owned trucks, vehicles, trailers, and equipment. Complete preventative maintenance tasks to ensure safe and reliable fleet operation. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and brake system issues. Maintain accurate service records and report repair needs to management. Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards. Respond to breakdowns and assist with emergency repairs as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine systems, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical components. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues efficiently. Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication and time-management skills.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED required. Minimum 2 years of experience in fleet maintenance, diesel repair, automotive repair, or related field required. Valid driver's license required. ASE, diesel mechanic, or related certifications are preferred.
