Job Description
Job Summary Todd's Trailer Sales & Rental is looking for a trailer mechanic to work on customer trailers and keep our own sales inventory and rental fleet road-ready. You'll handle everything from DOT annual inspections and brake work to floors, roofs, doors, and lights — on trailers that belong to local fleets and owner-operators as well as our own units. Some days you're reconditioning a trade-in for resale, some days you're getting a customer's trailer back on the road before their next load. We've been in business since 2002 at the corner of Highway 2 and Business 2 in East Grand Forks, and we're growing, so there's room to grow with us. Responsibilities Perform DOT annual inspections and complete the required documentation Inspect incoming trade-ins and purchased trailers, and write up what they need Diagnose and repair air brake systems — chambers, slack adjusters, valves, air lines, S-cams, shoes and drums Service running gear: wheel bearings, hubs, seals, suspension components, sliders and slider pins Mount, dismount, and repair tires; check inflation and tread on fleet units Troubleshoot and repair 7-way electrical, wiring harnesses, lights and ABS faults Repair and replace doors and door hardware — swing doors, roll-up doors, hinges, seals, tracks and locking rods Patch and replace roofs, sidewalls, scuff liners and hardwood flooring Repair and replace landing gear, crossmembers, and rails Perform light structural welding and cutting as needed Wash, detail, and prep trailers for sale or delivery Handle roadside and on-site service calls for rental customers Keep accurate repair records, track parts used, and flag parts that need reordering Maintain a safe, organized shop and follow all safety procedures Communicate directly with customers about needed repairs, options, and timelines Write accurate repair orders and document labor hours and parts for billing Give honest estimates and flag additional issues found during a repair before proceeding Qualifications 2+ years of experience repairing semi-trailers, heavy trucks, or comparable heavy equipment Working knowledge of air brake systems and trailer running gear Ability to read and follow repair manuals, parts diagrams, and DOT inspection criteria Valid driver's license and a clean driving record Able to lift 75 lbs, work on your feet, and work outdoors in Minnesota winters Dependable, shows up on time, and works safely without being watched Comfortable talking with customers and explaining repairs in plain language Join us as a Trailer Technician - Semi Trailer Mechanic and be part of a dedicated team committed to maintaining high standards of safety and performance! We value your expertise in vehicle maintenance and repair—help us keep our fleet on the road!
