Job Description
We are looking for a reliable and knowledgeable automotive/diesel/heavy equipment mechanic. In this role, you will inspect and repair vehicles and make recommendations for automotive/heavy equipment repairs and maintenance. You will also answer customer questions, inform customers about shop products and services, and adhere to vehicle & heavy equipment safety protocols. Automotive & Heavy Equipment Mechanic Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine automotive maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations.
- Identifying mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Repairing or replacing defective parts, performing routine maintenance, and overhauling major components.
- Identify pre-existing and potential vehicle malfunctions.
- Test vehicle parts prior to installation/repair.
- Keep accurate records of completed and outstanding jobs.
- Consistently meet deadlines for completed work.
- Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job.
- Meeting with customers to explain problems and viable solutions.
- Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems
- Checking vehicle lighting systems
- Test driving vehicles to gauge performance.
- Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks
- Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles & equipment
- Maintaining a parts inventory
- Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Vocational or postsecondary program completion preferred.
Mechanical Aptitude:
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.- At least 3 years of previous experience in a related role
- Extensive experience with various hand tools preferred
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and working in various positions.
- Valid driver's license. (CDL strongly preferred)
- Some welding experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic math and computer skills
- Ability to diagnose and solve complex problems.
