Job Summary PRN Medical Transport is seeking an experienced, proactive Fleet Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of our 15-vehicle fleet. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all BLS ambulances and wheelchair vans are mechanically sound, fully operational, and compliant with safety standards. Beyond standard automotive repairs, this role involves working on specialized medical equipment—such as stretchers, cot retention systems, and hydraulic wheelchair lifts—along with handling miscellaneous operational and garage needs as they arise. Key Responsibilities & Duties1. Fleet Maintenance & Repair Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake service, tire rotations, fluid checks, filter replacements) across all 15 fleet vehicles. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, cooling, fuel, and HVAC issues in diesel and gasoline engines. Conduct regular safety inspections to identify wear and tear or potential hazards before they cause vehicle downtime. Track vehicle inspection schedules to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal transport regulations. 2. Specialized Medical Equipment Maintenance Inspect, service, and repair medical transport stretchers/cots (manual, hydraulic, and power-load systems). Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot wheelchair lifts, ramp assemblies, tie-down systems, and floor track hardware. Ensure oxygen delivery/securing systems, power inverters, and auxiliary ambulance electronics are in safe working condition. 3. Operational & Facilities Support Respond promptly to unexpected vehicle breakdowns or urgent equipment issues to minimize downtime. Assist with minor facility repairs or general handyman tasks around the workshop/office as needed. Maintain complete and accurate logs of all repairs, parts usage, and preventive maintenance in our fleet tracking system. Manage parts inventory, place supply orders, and coordinate with external vendors when specialized outsourced repair work is needed. Keep the workshop area clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements Experience:

3+ years of professional experience as an automotive or fleet mechanic. Prior experience with commercial vans, light trucks, or emergency medical vehicles is preferred.

Certifications:

ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications are preferred (e.g., Brakes, Electrical Systems, Engine Performance). Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in automotive diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, hydraulics, and HVAC systems. Mechanical aptitude for servicing stretchers (e.g., Stryker, Ferno systems) and wheelchair lifts (e.g., BraunAbility, Ricon).

Attributes:

Strong problem-solving skills and flexibility to handle varied, non-standard tasks day-to-day. Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Detail-oriented approach to maintaining maintenance records and tracking inventory. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 75 lbs regularly. Comfort working in varied physical positions (kneeling, bending, reaching, standing for long periods, working under vehicles). Ability to safely operate shop equipment and power tools.
