Job Description

Posting Details District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways. This position is in Santa Fe and will be within the District Five Campus /Mechanic Shop. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.

Why does the job exist? This position diagnoses and makes repairs to light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment in a mechanic shop and field setting to ensure safe operation of vehicles for the New Mexico Department of Transportation District Five Office. How does it get done? Incumbent performs preventative maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics of light, medium, and heavy-duty gas- and diesel-powered equipment. Also, by performing mechanical repairs to hydraulic and electrical systems. Who are the customers? New Mexico Department of Transportation employees. Ideal Candidate New Mexico Department of Transportation employees. Minimum Qualification Six (6) months of work experience in a repair shop or maintenance facility. Educational experience in automotive service repair may substitute for required experience. Must possess or obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License, Class A (or equivalent license from another state) within one (1) year of hire. Employment Requirements This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing to include successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain such license within six (6) months of hire. Business reference check and driver's license verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays may be required. Must be available to respond to emergency call outs on short notice. Working Conditions Work is performed in varying weather conditions, on hard or smooth surfaces, uneven ground, exposure to noise, fumes, high liquid air pressures, moving traffic and heavy equipment. Work may also be performed in an office setting using computer, faxes, copiers and printer. Occasional travel is required, operations of towing/slider is required, ability to lift up to 50lbs.
