Job Description
The Clyde-Savannah Central School District has an opening for a Head Mechanic. Benefits and Health Insurance available. The Head Mechanic will be responsible for:
Maintaining school buses and school vehicles in compliance with NYS and Federal transportation regulations
Diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines
Performing preventative maintenance and safety inspections
Scheduling and coordinating vehicle repair and maintenance operations
Ordering of parts and equipment
Utilizing computer diagnostics and maintaining digital repair records
Performs other position-related duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor
Job Qualifications
At least two years of experience as a mechanic working on school buses, commercial trucks, or heavy-duty vehicles
Strong troubleshooting and problem -solving abilities
Ability to work with DOT and what is expected for school vehicle DOT inspections
Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and braking systems
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports
Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a shop environment
Physically fit and agile to pass mandatory NYS Physical performance test
Special Qualification
Must have a valid CDL B license with required endorsements and be on the 19A roster for school transportation.
