This is skilled work responsible for the efficient and workmanlike performance of a variety of automotive and auto body repair tasks. General instructions are received from the Transportation Director regarding tasks to perform, permitting considerable leeway for planning the details of each assignment. Supervision is exercised over Automotive Helpers. Does related work as required. Thorough knowledge of standard automotive repair methods, practices, and procedures used in auto body repair work; demonstrated ability to make difficult mechanical and body repairs to automotive and heavy equipment; demonstrated ability to repair mechanical equipment; familiarity with welding, cutting, and brazing equipment; good knowledge of safety practices; ability to work from plans and specifications; ability to follow rough draft sketches and oral instructions; good motor and hand and eye coordination; manual dexterity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of experience in automotive truck or heavy equipment repair work or auto body repair. The candidate will successfully meet all Jefferson County Civil Service requirements (which may be in addition to what is indicated in this posting).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Incumbents may be required to road test vehicles; therefore, an appropriate level New York State driver's license is required (minimum CDL Class B). Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a NYS Vehicle Inspection license. Hourly wage commensurate with experience and pursuant to the GBSRP collective bargaining agreement.
