JOB SUMMARY

To maintain all district buses and other vehicles in good operating condition to assure the safe transport of both the students and employees of the district.

QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION

• Must possess a current valid Oregon class "B" driver's license [or ability to obtain] issued by the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles including air brake, passenger, and "S" endorsements.
• Must possess or ability to obtain Department of School Bus Driver's Certificate.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in the operation of all types of shop tools and test equipment associated with maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline powered trucks and buses.
• Demonstrate knowledge of parts supply and inventory procedures.
• Demonstrate leadership capabilities to assign work and direct the activities of vehicle maintenance personnel assigned to the shop.
• Experience as a mechanic in the repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline engines, air brakes, automatic transmissions, power trains, electrical systems and components, and major component overhaul and rebuild.
• Demonstrate ability to analyze, diagnose and correct vehicle faults.
• Physical capabilities include capability to lift medium to heavy weight, stoop, bend and twist.
• Ability to follow and provide written and verbal directions.
• Skill in written and oral communication.
• Ability to use good judgment and follow proper procedures and directives and to work in a safe manner at all times.
• Ability to get along and collaborate effectively with other individuals.
• Maintain an up-to-date First Aid card and appropriate classroom hours.
• Perform physical requirements which may include: o Moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.

and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs o Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, laying down, and bending o Exposure to outdoor weather conditions of heat and cold where ventilation may be inadequate o May require exposure to chemicals including oil and gas o Ability to operate district vehicles, power tools, and etc. o May require exposure to the possibility of electrical shock.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains the district's transportation fleet in compliance with school district and state/federal standards and requirements.
• Plans, oversees and performs the inspections, diagnoses and repairs of gas and diesel engines and such mechanical equipment as passenger vehicles, buses, trucks, and accessories, and all other equipment used in the district.
• Maintains a system for keeping expenditures and repair records of all district vehicles and a complete and accurate record of maintenance for each vehicle.
• Initiates purchase orders, as budgeted, for needed supplies, repair parts and replacement parts.
• Assists in the preparation of bid specifications for new buses and/or vehicles.
• Maintains an accurate report of all on-the-road mechanical breakdowns.
• Maintains an orderly arrangement of the work area at the bus garage.
• Reports on a regular basis, informational updates regarding the bus garage and its operation; keeps the dispatcher, transportation coordinator and administration appraised of the condition, progress, and availability of all vehicles requiring his attention at all times.
• Operates school buses and other vehicles as required to ensure proper repairs and maintenance.
• Maintains a regular system for communication with drivers regarding mechanical problems.
• Works cooperatively with the safety committee to review and analyze findings or recommendations and takes appropriate action.
• Drive bus routes and trips as needed.
• Assists Administration in creating a positive image with school employees.
• Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay:

$38.16 - $45.40 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
