Job Description
Student Transportation of America (STA) is one of the largest providers of contracted transportation in North America. We are seeking a Fleet Shop Manager to coordinate maintenance/mechanical needs at our Allentown, PA terminal. This manager would be responsible for the coordination, scheduling and auditing of maintenance repairs to include preventative, mechanical and electrical repair for vehicles in the terminal fleet. You will have access to technology, tools and training. You will also be involved in the hiring and training of mechanics (team of four) to insure we are able to meet customer requirements.
Core Responsibilities and Duties Maintenance Supervision:
Oversee and troubleshoot repair orders, inspect completed work, and ensure fleet safety standards are met, shop supervisor role is a working mechanic position and will be responsible for working on the floor making repairs, completing PM's, DVIR's, and any other maintenance issues.Independent Maintenance Decisions:

Instead of waiting for instruction, independent workers identify issues, analyze options, and propose or implement solutions independently.Technical Proficiency:
A deep understanding of maintenance techniques and equipment enables quick, safe decision-making on repair vs. replace scenarios.Staff Management:
Contribute to hiring of mechanics and training. Ensure assigned staff training is completed on time. Ensure shop has mechanics on duty during the contracted times within the school contract, schedule, and evaluate maintenance personnel.- Establish, implement, and sustain on a daily basis, a maintenance program in accordance with client mandates, regulatory requirements, and STA Mai ntenance Management System guidelines, standards, and policies.
- Conduct periodic employee meetings to ensure timely distribution of information and monitor contract performance, areas of concern, and client and employee issues.
- Keep maintenance areas safe, clean and organized, and ensure the use of appropriate safety/personal protection equipment
- Plan and assign work for employees to maximize labor utilization and employee technical competencies
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), state, federal, and company regulations regarding safety and maintenance.Inventory & Budget:
Order parts, manage fuel supplies, and manage the maintenance budget to reduce operating costs.Communication :
Primary communication and reports to the location Operations Manager. All maintenance responsibilities (STA standards) and required reports will be assigned, and the performance of those tasks evaluated by the Regional Maintenance Manager. Communicate and coordinate with dispatch to schedule buses for service without interrupting transport operations.Licensing:
Valid CDL Operator's license Class A or B to CDL with necessary endorsements (e.g., S endorsement), PA State Inspection License Class 7.Technical Knowledge:
Proficiency in school bus equipment, diesel engine repair, light and medium duty gas and diesel vehicles, aftertreatment repairs, hyd and air brake systems including ABS systems, and computer systems for tracking maintenance, making work orders, and parts requisitions. (e.g., Fleetsoft, Cetaris, Cummins Insite, Ford IDS, Bendix).Skills:
Strong leadership, communication, organizational skills, and schedule work for maintenance personnel.Attendance:
On-time performance daily. Start of shift 06:00 with an expectation of 10 hours minimum during the school year and 8 hours minimum during the summer season. Start time is subject to change as needed. Additional hours are required as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.Qualified applicants should have:
High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized vehicle and equipment repair courses applicable to diesel bus or truck maintenance and repair; At least two (3) years supervisory experience as a lead mechanic or manager in an automotive, school bus, trucking or heavy equipment environment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience; ASE certification is a plus. Valid CDL is preferred; Administrative skills to oversee maintenance related invoices, repair time, efficiency from mechanic team, tracking trends on work orders and month end requirements for the terminal; Preventative Maintenance Program experience; Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web based applications preferred; Financial skills to participate in developing yearly maintenance budgets for the terminal; Technical skills to perform/oversee PM inspections and system field tests; Flexibility to perform emergency roadside services, if needed; Housekeeping experience to supply and maintain tools and work place so that shop conditions are neat and orderly and terminal is safe for all who work there; Other duties as designated by Terminal Manager or STA Regional Management.NOTE:
