DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship provides practical experience in vehicle repair, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance while working closely with skilled mechanics. As an Automotive Mechanic Intern, you will perform the following duties:

Repair Work:

Perform general maintenance on cars and light trucks including suspension, brakes, and air conditioning systems

Routine Services:

Complete oil changes, tire services, and other basic maintenance tasks

Diagnostic Tasks:

Use computer tools to identify vehicle issues and assist with troubleshooting

Documentation Skills:

Record repairs, complete work orders, and maintain accurate information

Tool Care:

Handle, store, and maintain tools and equipment safely and properly

Team Learning:

Work under direct supervision, listen to mechanics, and follow department policies and procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Work schedule will vary based on the agreement between high school and COPA location.

Senior enrolled in High School 2026-2027 - The internship would be available through the 2026-2027 school year.

Junior enrolled in High School 2026-2027 - The internship could be available through the 2026-2027 school year, summer 2027, and 2027-2028 school year.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

You must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.

You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school or a vo-tech curriculum related to mechanical and/or automotive trades during the 2026 - 2027 school year.

Additional Requirements:

Letter of Recommendation:

You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.

By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.

Work Permit:

Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.
