$17 / hour (and up, based on experience and efficiency) The Reality of the Role This is a fast-paced, production-focused automotive environment. We dismantle vehicles, inventory high-value reusable components, and process scrap materials efficiently. There are no corporate buzzwords here: you show up on time, handle teardowns and scrap sorting properly, keep the bay organized, and get the job done.
Core Responsibilities Teardown & Retrieval:
Safely remove mechanical, electrical, and body components from vehicles without damaging saleable inventory.
Scrap Aluminum & Core Processing:
Strip, sort, and prep aluminum scrap (heads, blocks, transmission cases, wheels, radiators, and structural components). Cut or remove steel inserts, fasteners, and contamination to ensure clean scrap grades.
Tool Operation:
Utilize your own hand and cordless power tools for general teardown, alongside shop-provided cutting equipment (saws, torches, cut-off wheels) to prep scrap metal quickly.
Inspection & Quality:
Inspect and verify the condition of inventory-bound parts before they move to listing/shelving; identify unrepairable components for immediate scrap sorting.
Shop Upkeep & Material Flow:
Keep scrap bins organized by grade, clear work areas of hazards, and maintain fluid containment to keep the teardown line moving.
Non-Negotiable Requirements Tools:
You must own and bring your own complete set of standard automotive tools (hand tools, cordless impacts, sockets, wrenches). Specialized heavy shop tools, lifts, and metal-cutting equipment are provided.
Automotive & Material Competence:
Working knowledge of vehicle systems and teardown procedures. You know how to extract usable parts cleanly and how to quickly identify and segregate clean aluminum from iron/steel-contaminated material.
Punctuality & Reliability:
The shift starts when scheduled. Unexcused call-outs and consistent tardiness will not be tolerated.
Physical Capability:
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, operate cutting tools safely, work on your feet for full shifts, and handle dirty shop environments in all seasons.
