Job Description
This Is a Remote Position That Can Be Based Anywhere In Southern, CAPosition OverviewThe Regional Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting a fleet of specialized commercial vehicles and mobile equipment utilized in mining, quarrying, construction, and explosive delivery operations throughout an assigned region. This field-based role plays a critical part in ensuring fleet reliability, regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and safe equipment performance.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience working on heavy-duty trucks, diesel-powered equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and mobile industrial equipment. This position serves as a regional technical resource, providing hands-on repairs, advanced diagnostics, and support to operators and maintenance personnel across multiple locations.
Key ResponsibilitiesInspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty trucks, fleet vehicles, and mobile industrial equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service activities to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and vehicle controls.
Provide technical support to operators and maintenance personnel regarding equipment operation, maintenance practices, and troubleshooting.
Perform advanced diagnostics to identify and resolve complex equipment and performance issues.
Maintain detailed maintenance, service, and inspection records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
Schedule and coordinate repair activities to ensure equipment remains operational and compliant.
Order, inventory, and manage maintenance parts, tools, and consumable supplies.
Evaluate repair alternatives and recommend equipment replacements, upgrades, or outsourced repairs when appropriate.
Maintain company-provided tools, diagnostic equipment, and service resources in good condition.
Ensure maintenance facilities, garages, and work areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
Report recurring equipment, vendor, or operational issues to management.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with operators, vendors, customers, and regulatory agencies.
Support all company safety initiatives and ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and internal safety requirements.
Maintain all applicable licenses, certifications, and qualifications necessary to perform fleet maintenance work.
Travel throughout the assigned region to support equipment maintenance and field service needs.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsExtensive experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks, fleet vehicles, construction equipment, mining equipment, or similar industrial assets.
Strong diesel engine diagnostics and repair experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience with any or all of the following:
Hydraulic systemsPneumatic systemsAir brake systemsHeavy-duty electrical systemsDiesel powertrainsSuspensions and steering systemsTrailer systems and auxiliary equipmentExperience supporting vocational trucks, bulk delivery vehicles, construction equipment, aggregate equipment, mining equipment, or similar fleet assets is highly preferred.
Ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical equipment failures.
Proficiency using diagnostic software, electrical testing equipment, and traditional troubleshooting methods.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, service manuals, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation.
Experience with preventative maintenance programs, fleet compliance requirements, and maintenance documentation.
Strong inventory management and parts sourcing experience.
Ability to work independently while supporting multiple facilities and operating locations.
Willingness to travel approximately 75% throughout the assigned territory.
