Portsmouth Abbey School is a coeducational Catholic boarding and day school for grades 9 through 12. Job Summary:

This role ensures the safety, reliability, and peak performance of our entire school transport fleet (including multi-passenger vans, and athletic transport vehicles) as well as campus facility equipment (tractors, commercial mowers, and snow removal machinery). The ideal candidate thrives in a community-minded campus environment and prioritizes safety above all else. The person is part of our maintenance team and flexibility is a must.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, fluid flushes, brake inspections) on all vans, and utility vehicles. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. Maintain accurate service logs to comply with Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) and school safety mandates. Manage parts inventory and coordinate with external specialized repair vendors when necessary. Assist the facilities team with seasonal grounds maintenance equipment upkeep (mowers, plows, blowers).

Qualifications & Skills:

Organizational and Time Management skills are essential as this position will have many tasks and projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines. Candidates must possess problem solving skills and be able to consider a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. They need to grasp complexities and perceive relationships among different problems or issues. Verbal and written communications skills are necessary to effectively communicate operating issues that are complex in nature. This individual must be willing and able to maintain open communication channels with peers, administrators, and the community. Experience in facilities management, a plus Independent School experience is a plus.
