Being the best advisor at a shop that's going nowhere is a slow way to go nowhere. If you've been the top dog at your shop for a couple of years and the only thing that's changed is the calendar, you know the feeling. The counter runs because of you, and the job description hasn't noticed. A locally owned Chattanooga auto shop is hiring an Automotive Service Advisor who wants the next step in writing. The title is Assistant Shop Manager, and the work backs it up: run the shop when the service manager's out, order the parts, build relationships with customers, and learn the numbers from our manager who's been in the business for a long time. If you'd rather do something right than do it twice with a clear path to advancement, keep reading. If hitting the minimum is your comfort zone, this probably isn't your shop.
Key Responsibilities:
Answer the phone like the caller matters. Most new customers meet us on the phone first, and a clear 3-minute call is what books the appointment. Check customers in, write up the concern accurately, and keep them posted while the car's in the bay with the mechanics. Build estimates in the shop system with photos and notes, then walk the customer through the inspection: what's a safety issue, what's maintenance, and what can wait. Get approvals, document declines, and close out repair orders without missing anything. Open and close the shop and run the workboard when the service manager is off. Order parts, handle core returns, and check vendor invoices against what we agreed to pay. The foundational work that makes the place look like somewhere you'd leave your own car: waiting room stocked, inventory tracking, and other ad-hoc duties. Qualifications /
Requirements:
5+ years of service counter, dealership, or parts-counter experience preferred. Can explain a repair in plain English without dumbing it down or talking over someone. Comfortable with a shop management or point-of-sale system. If you've used one, you can learn ours, but it's a big plus if you have Tekmetric experience. Valid driver's license. You'll move customer vehicles around the lot; willingness to perform services such as a basic oil change is also a bonus. High school diploma or equivalent. Must pass a drug test and a criminal background check. Able to commute reliably within Chattanooga.
Hours & Pay Structure:
$21 to $22 per hour, or a commission on weekly sales, whichever is greater. Perform well, and the commission side wins; on slow weeks, the base holds. Weekday and Saturday shifts, closed Sundays. 5 days a week, with one weekday off in addition to Sundays. Expect around 45 hours a week, overtime eligible.
Benefits:
Employee discount on parts for your own vehicles. 401(k) with a 2% company match. 10 paid days off per calendar year, plus holidays. If you're tired of shops that treat the counter like a pure cash register and the advisor like a simple closer, and you'd rather work somewhere that trains you and pays you for your output, we'd like to meet you. Apply even if you don't check every box above. Apply through Indeed. The owner reads every application.
Pay:
$1,000.00 - $1,500.00 per week
