Job Description

Minimum Salary $37,123.24. Salary offer commensurate with education and related experience. The Transportation Mechanic performs skilled fleet maintenance and repair to ensure the safe, reliable operation of all college vehicles, mechanical systems, lawn care equipment, and custodial machinery. Diagnoses and resolves mechanical issues, conducts preventive maintenance, and collaborates with other trades to support efficient campus operations and minimize equipment downtime. The essential duties listed below are representative of the position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Additional duties may be assigned based on the needs of the Physical Plant department and/or position.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ability to work irregular hours, overtime, and rotating standby duty, including weekends, holidays and emergency situations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Services and maintains all college vehicles and equipment Provides recommendations on viability of equipment and replacement if necessary Responsible for general cleanliness of all college vehicles Performs all preventive maintenance on the emergency diesel generators Other duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise levels may be loud at times. Will be exposed to intense light, dust, dirt, air-conditioning, grease, dampness, electric shocks, hydrocarbon fumes, cleaning agents, lubricants and various other chemicals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina. Frequently lifts assets and equipment weighing fifty (50) or more pounds. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to service buildings.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED One (1) year related work experience Or a combination of education and related work experience Must have valid driver's license and automobile insurance at all times
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certificate from a trade school, junior college, or other similar institution in auto-mechanics Two (2) or more years work experience in auto mechanics Bilingual - English/Spanish
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must have the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain issues with the college's vehicles and equipment Self-motivated with minimum supervision Ability to work irregular hours, overtime, and rotating standby duty, including weekends, holidays and emergency situations. Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other technicians and campus departments in a safety-sensitive environment where coordinated efforts are essential. Ability to travel locally as needed on behalf of the College to support Physical Plant service activities and/or deliveries.
