Location:
Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas | Full-Time | On-Site Plasnomic is seeking a practical, innovation-focused engineer to support the development of advanced repair solutions for automotive plastic components. This role will take damaged or unavailable components—particularly headlight and bumper mounting tabs—and transform them into verified replacement parts. The complete workflow includes 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD modeling, prototyping, additive manufacturing, repair integration and dimensional verification. Key Responsibilities Scan automotive components using handheld blue-laser 3D scanning technology. Capture intact components, mirrored-side geometry and damaged mounting areas. Process, align, clean and export scan data for reverse engineering. Convert mesh files into accurate, editable 3D models. Design replacement tabs, repair sections, jigs, fixtures and production tooling. Improve original part geometry to provide better fit, weld access and bonding strength. Produce prototypes in PLA or PETG to confirm fit and geometry. Print production components using engineering-grade polypropylene materials, including PP-GF30. Set up, operate and maintain enclosed Bambu Lab 3D printers. Develop and optimize print settings for accuracy, strength and repeatability. Work with plastic repair technicians to integrate printed components through polypropylene fusion welding. Use optical 3D inspection software to compare repaired components against OEM geometry. Support mechanical testing and document part strength, accuracy and performance. Maintain a digital parts catalog containing scan files, CAD models, print settings, testing records and physical reference locations. Develop repeatable engineering processes that can be trained and implemented across Plasnomic's repair network. Preferred Skills and Experience Experience in mechanical engineering, product design, manufacturing engineering, additive manufacturing or a related field. Strong CAD modeling and reverse-engineering capabilities. Experience working with 3D scan data, meshes and complex component geometry. Knowledge of dimensional tolerances, inspection methods and engineering drawings. Practical experience operating and troubleshooting
FDM/FFF 3D
printers. Understanding of engineering polymers, ideally polypropylene and glass-fiber-reinforced materials. Ability to move a product from physical scan through prototype, production and verification. Strong problem-solving skills and close attention to detail. Comfortable working in a hands-on automotive, workshop and innovation-center environment. Ability to document processes clearly and create repeatable operating procedures. Experience with the following platforms would be highly valuable: Shining 3D FreeScan scanners and software QuickSurface Autodesk Inventor Meshmixer or similar mesh-repair software

Optical 3D Bambu Lab professional 3D printers Engineering-grade automotive plastics Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is not limited to designing behind a desk. You should be equally comfortable scanning a damaged automotive component, rebuilding it digitally, printing and test-fitting a prototype, refining the design and verifying the completed repair. Automotive collision repair experience is beneficial but not essential. More important is the ability to apply engineering knowledge practically and help develop innovative solutions to real industry problems. Why Join Plasnomic?
