Grandeur USA is building a one-of-a-kind prototype sports car and is looking for an experienced automotive mechanic with custom car and fabrication experience to join our build team. We are taking components from existing vehicles—including a 2018 Porsche Boxster and a 2026 Polaris Slingshot —and adapting the drivetrain, suspension, steering, brakes, and other mechanical systems into a completely custom vehicle. This is not a typical repair-shop mechanic position . We need someone who enjoys figuring out how to make different automotive components work together in a custom vehicle and who is comfortable working on a prototype where solutions may need to be engineered and fabricated rather than simply purchased. The mechanic will work closely with our welder and other members of the build team. A major part of the job is completing the mechanical work and component positioning necessary so our welder can continue fabricating the chassis and mounting structures. Responsibilities Remove, inspect, modify, and install automotive mechanical components. Work with drivetrain, engine, transmission, suspension, steering, brakes, hubs, axles, cooling systems, exhaust, and related systems. Help determine how OEM components can be adapted to a custom chassis. Position and mock up engines, transmissions, suspension components, and other mechanical systems before final welding. Measure and verify component locations, clearances, alignment, and geometry. Work closely with the welder to determine mounting points and provide accurate dimensions and positioning. Modify brackets, mounts, supports, and other mechanical components as necessary. Troubleshoot mechanical fitment problems and develop practical solutions. Assist with integrating components from different vehicles into the prototype. Identify interference and clearance issues before parts are permanently welded. Assemble and disassemble components as needed during the fabrication process. Help with brake, steering, suspension, drivetrain, and wheel fitment. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate solutions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Work independently and take ownership of assigned portions of the vehicle build. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanic who has built or heavily modified custom vehicles and is comfortable working outside of a standard production vehicle repair environment. Required Strong automotive mechanical experience. Experience working on custom cars, race cars, hot rods, kit cars, prototypes, or heavily modified vehicles. Strong understanding of drivetrain, suspension, steering, and braking systems. Ability to measure, mock up, align, and install mechanical components. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical fitment and integration problems. Comfortable working with incomplete plans and developing practical solutions. Ability to work closely with a welder/fabricator. Strong mechanical problem-solving skills. Ability to use standard automotive hand and power tools. Reliable, hands-on, and detail-oriented. Highly Preferred Experience building a vehicle from the ground up. Experience with custom chassis or tube-frame vehicles. Experience adapting drivetrains from one vehicle into another. Experience with Porsche, Polaris Slingshot, or similar performance vehicles. Fabrication experience. Welding experience is a plus, but the primary requirement is mechanical expertise . Experience with engine/transmission swaps. Experience with custom suspension and steering setups. Motorsports, performance automotive, or race-shop experience. About the Project This is an opportunity to work on a highly unusual automotive project rather than performing repetitive maintenance or repair work. We are building a prototype sports car using mechanical components sourced from existing vehicles and integrating them into our own custom vehicle design. You will work directly with the build team and have a significant role in solving the real-world mechanical challenges that come with creating a one-off vehicle. Contract Position This is a project-based contract position . The initial engagement will focus on the current prototype build, with the potential for additional work as the project progresses. We are looking for someone who can start working hands-on and contribute immediately , rather than someone who needs extensive direction for every task.
