Job Over The Assistant Director of Transportation Fleet Services will provide leadership and operational oversight for district fleet services, including acquisition, maintenance, safety,pliance, and lifecycle management of school buses and white-fleet vehicles. The Assistant Director will partner with transportation centers/shops to ensure safe, efficient, and customer-focused service that supports student transportation across the District. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Fleet Maintenance, Operations & Safety Leads the district's fleet maintenance program for all buses and white-fleet vehicles; standardizes shop procedures and methods across transportation centers. Ensures shops are adequately staffed and equipped; assigns and oversees work for shop foremen, assistant foremen, parts technicians, and body shops in coordination with area leadership. Implements and monitor quality control, preventive maintenance schedules, and timely workpletion. Maintains a safe shop environment; enforces established safety procedures/techniques (e.g., lifting, climbing); models safety culture. Operates district vehicles and transports students when needed to support operations. Procurement, Budget & Asset Lifecycle Management Approves purchases for fleet services in alignment with district purchasing guidelines. Assists with development and management of the operating budget; justifies expenditures and monitors cost controls. Develops specifications and makes rmendations for bids and service contracts; prepares supporting documentation for buses, shop equipment, fuel, and related services. People Leadership, Training & Performance Works collaboratively with center Area Directors/Assistant Directors to ensure staffing alignment and operational coverage. Makes rmendations regarding hiring, placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal of shop personnel. Creates, maintains, and schedules continuing training for shop staff; contributes to new-hire onboarding/orientation for all shop personnel. Sets expectations for customer service, punctuality, reliability, and professional conduct. Compliance, Reporting & Policy Implementation Compiles, maintains, and files all required reports and records. Interprets, applies, and ensurespliance with laws, regulations, guidelines, and policies related to transportation of students and staff. Supports the development, evaluation, and enforcement of transportation policies, procedures, and guidelines. Safeguards confidentiality related to students and employees. Stakeholder Service, Communication & Collaboration Provides responsive service and clearmunication to campuses, departments, parents, vendors, andmunity partners to ensure a positive customer experience. Participates in staff development and district initiatives; models professionalism and collaborative problem-solving. Supports district and department priorities through strong work ethic and reliable attendance. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises, manages, and leads the Fleet Services Specialist, Parts Manager, body shop operations, and assists in the supervision of shop personnel at transportation centers. Inters and performs evaluations of assigned personnelQualifications:
High School diploma or GED required Texas Association for Pupil Transportation Certification (TAPT) or Texas Association for School Bus Technicians Certification, preferred Possess at least eight (8) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications A1-A8 or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck equivalents T1-T6 or School Bus S-series (S1-S7) preferred; or demonstrate proficiency in these areas Valid Driver's license with CDL Certification Class A with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, or ability to obtain within 45 days of employment Texas School Bus Driver Certification preferred, or required to obtain within six (6) months of employment Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Stage II Vapor Recovery Certification preferred, or required to obtain within 45 days of employment Minimum of 2 years experience as a heavy-duty truck or school bus mechanic, required Minimum of 4 years vehicle repair and maintenance procedures experience, required Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience over a large fleet environment, preferred Advanced knowledge of fleet maintenance programs, shop operations, and Microsoft applications. Demonstrated experience in personnel recruitment and hiring. Proficient with calculators and personalputers. Strong interpersonal andmunication skills for effective interaction with diverse employee groups, administrators, vendors, andmunity members. Knowledge of safety practices, quality control, preventive maintenance, and applicable transportation laws and regulations.Salary Range:
