Gateway Automotive is hiring an A-level technician for our Oak Harbor shop. $45 to $50 an hour , hourly base plus a monthly production bonus. You get paid when the shop is slow, and you get paid more when you produce. No flat rate roulette. You have read enough of these ads to know what they leave out. So let's start with what you actually want to know. The questions you'd ask if we were standing in the shop Will my bay stay full? Oak Harbor is a high-volume store on an island with a customer base that is not going anywhere. Car count is not our problem. Will the advisor sell my diagnosis, or bury it? Our advisors are paid on gross profit, and their bonus is gated on how much they discount. They are financially motivated to sell your recommendations at full price. An advisor who gives away your diag time is taking money out of his own pocket. That is not a promise, it is how the pay plan is built. Why us instead of the shop down the road Most shops hire an A-tech to be the guy who fixes what nobody else can, and that is the whole plan for the rest of your career. Ours is different. Gateway runs seven shops across Skagit, Island and Snohomish counties and we are still adding locations. Several of the people running our stores today started with a toolbox and a bay. Here is the part nobody tells techs. The ceiling in this trade sits a long way above the bay. The tool companies, the equipment makers, and the training networks all pull their instructors and field engineers straight out of shops like ours. Those jobs go to techs who got sharp on diagnostics somewhere and had somebody paying attention to them. Most techs never find out those jobs exist because nobody in their shop ever mentions it. We will mention it. If you want to run a store, we will teach you the numbers. If you want out of the bay and into training or field work, we will point you at it and pay for the certifications on the way. And if you would rather stay on the tools and be the best diagnostic tech on Whidbey, that is a real answer too, and we will pay you like it. What you will be doing Drivability, electrical, and the diagnostic work that comes off the other benches Diagnosis and repair across brakes, suspension, steering, cooling, and engine Digital vehicle inspections with photos and honest recommendations Mentoring the younger techs, because that is how a shop gets deeper What we are looking for Five or more years as a technician in a professional repair shop You can chase an intermittent electrical fault to the actual cause instead of throwing parts at it Comfortable on a scope, not just a scan tool ASE certifications, L1 especially. We pay for the ones you do not have yet. Your own hand tools. We supply the lifts, the heavy equipment, scan tools, and specialty tools. Valid driver's license and an insurable record Somebody the crew wants in the building. Skill we can build. Character we cannot. Coming from Skagit or Whatcom, it is the Deception Pass bridge. From Snohomish or King County, it is the Mukilteo ferry into Clinton.
