Job Description

Aircraft Avionics Crew Chief Location:
Indianapolis, IN Pay:
$30-$50 per hour, based on experience
Crew Chief Incentive:
Additional $4 per hour
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Additional compensation includes:
Overtime for hours worked over 40 per week $6 per hour premium for second shift $2 per hour travel premium for AOG assignments Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Avionics Crew Chief to lead avionics installations, troubleshooting, system integration, and team operations in a business aviation maintenance environment. This is a hands-on leadership position for an avionics professional who can independently manage complex projects, guide technicians, and ensure all work meets FAA, OEM, and company quality standards. Key Responsibilities Lead complex avionics installations, panel upgrades, retrofits, and STC modifications Install and integrate Garmin, Collins, Avidyne, and other major avionics systems Integrate avionics with autopilot, navigation, communication, engine indication, and flight-control systems Fabricate, modify, terminate, and route aircraft wiring harnesses Diagnose advanced avionics discrepancies to the LRU and component level Troubleshoot conflicts between legacy aircraft systems and modern avionics equipment Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, and maintenance manuals Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized avionics test equipment Install and troubleshoot Gogo ATG, satellite, Wi-Fi, and cabin connectivity systems Oversee, train, and mentor avionics technicians Review completed work for quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance Assist with project planning, labor requirements, system compatibility, and technical risk evaluation Complete logbook entries, FAA Form 337 documentation, and other required maintenance records Maintain organized, accurate, and audit-ready project documentation Coordinate with maintenance leadership, parts personnel, vendors, and other departments Support AOG assignments and special projects as needed Promote a safe, accountable, and quality-focused work environment Required Qualifications 5-7 years of aircraft avionics maintenance or installation experience Experience working in an MRO or similar aviation maintenance environment Previous experience leading technicians or overseeing complex avionics projects Strong background in panel upgrades, retrofits, installations, and STC modifications Experience with Garmin, Collins, Avidyne, or similar avionics systems Advanced knowledge of aircraft wiring, harness fabrication, termination, and routing Ability to troubleshoot avionics, electrical, communication, navigation, and flight-control systems Experience working on piston, turboprop, or light jet aircraft Familiarity with aircraft such as Cirrus, Beechcraft, Cessna, Hawker, or Embraer Knowledge of FAA regulations, STC requirements, maintenance documentation, and Form 337 procedures Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Ability to pass a background check and drug screening Availability for occasional travel, on-call support, evenings, or weekends when required Preferred Qualifications Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant license Garmin, Collins, Avidyne, or other OEM certifications Experience with Gogo ATG and satellite connectivity systems Knowledge of glass cockpits and integrated avionics suites Experience planning and estimating complex avionics projects Familiarity with computerized maintenance tracking and diagnostic software Experience troubleshooting integrated hydraulic, flight-control, or powerplant systems Benefits The company offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that may include: Health and wellness benefits Retirement plan with company matching Paid vacation and holidays Professional training and development Discounted flight training Opportunities for advancement If you are an experienced avionics professional ready to take the lead on complex aircraft projects while helping develop a skilled technical team, we encourage you to apply.
