POSITION SUMMARY
Hawthorn Aero is seeking a Systems Integration Engineer to support the design, integration, production, and test of aerospace vehicles and complex electromechanical systems. This role sits at the intersection of aerospace vehicle design and production, with responsibility for understanding vehicle-level requirements, subsystem interfaces, and system performance while ensuring designs can be efficiently manufactured, assembled, integrated, and tested. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer comfortable moving between engineering analysis, CAD, production hardware, technicians, suppliers, and test environments.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the design and development of aerospace products and systems. Support vehicle-level system architecture, requirements, interfaces, integration, and verification activities. Work across structures, propulsion, electrical, avionics, communications, payloads, flight controls, and software to resolve multidisciplinary integration issues. Translate system and subsystem requirements into practical design, manufacturing, assembly, and test solutions. Support design reviews, trade studies, interface definition, configuration control, and engineering change activities. Develop and improve production, assembly, integration, tooling, and test processes for aerospace vehicles and subsystems. Support prototype builds, first article production, production readiness, and transition into repeatable manufacturing. Troubleshoot vehicle, subsystem, production, and test issues and drive root cause and corrective action. Travel to vendor and customer sites as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience. 5-10 years of progressive aerospace or defense engineering experience, including significant experience with UAS or complex aircraft systems integration. Proficiency with SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM software. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Familiarity with aircraft and military standards. Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with clean-sheet aircraft configuration and development. Broad experience across a range of aircraft programs. Hands-on manufacturing experience. Practical aircraft experience, such as a pilot's license, A&P certification, or similar background.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Duties may require the occasional use of/contact with/exposure to various hazardous materials (such as, but not limited to grease, oils, lubricants, paint, thinner, parts cleaner, chemicals, etc.). Employees should have basic awareness of hazardous materials cautions. Those directly using the materials must have specific knowledge of material in use and utilize appropriate safety precautions.
