•Aviation Campus Position Summary The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Memphis is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to serve as a full-time Airframe Systems Instructor in the Aviation Maintenance Technology program. The instructor will provide high-quality classroom and laboratory instruction designed to prepare students for successful careers in aviation maintenance and achievement of applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications. The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of aircraft airframe systems and demonstrate the ability to translate industry experience into effective hands-on instruction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in Airframe Systems in accordance with approved curriculum, institutional requirements, and applicable FAA standards. Provide instruction in areas that may include aircraft structures, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, landing gear systems, flight controls, environmental systems, aircraft inspection, maintenance procedures, and other airframe-related subjects. Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, laboratory activities, assessments, and other course materials. Maintain accurate student attendance, academic progress, grades, competencies, and other required records. Evaluate student performance through written examinations, practical projects, demonstrations, and competency-based assessments. Maintain a safe, organized, professional, and industry-aligned laboratory and classroom environment. Ensure tools, equipment, training aids, and instructional materials are properly maintained and used safely. Provide academic support, guidance, and remediation to assist students in successfully completing program requirements. Maintain current knowledge of aviation maintenance practices, FAA regulations, technological advancements, and industry expectations. Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, advisory committee activities, recruitment events, graduation, and other institutional activities as assigned. Work collaboratively with the Aviation Coordinator, faculty, administration, and industry partners to support program quality and continuous improvement. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must meet applicable FAA requirements for instruction within an FAA-approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School. FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate. Relevant professional experience in aviation maintenance, with demonstrated experience related to aircraft airframe systems. Strong technical knowledge of aircraft inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and safety practices. Ability to communicate effectively and work successfully with students from diverse educational and professional backgrounds. Ability to use technology and learning management systems to support instruction and student learning. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) or more years of aviation maintenance experience. Previous teaching, training, supervisory, or mentoring experience. Experience working in an FAA-certificated Aviation Maintenance Technician School or other aviation training environment. Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution. Current industry certifications, specialized training, or manufacturer-specific credentials relevant to aircraft maintenance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate should demonstrate strong technical and organizational skills, effective written and verbal communication, a commitment to student success, and the ability to provide both theoretical and hands-on instruction. The individual must be able to model professional workplace expectations and reinforce safety, accountability, teamwork, and quality workmanship. Work Environment This position requires work in classroom, laboratory, hangar, and aviation maintenance training environments. The instructor must be able to demonstrate aviation maintenance procedures, operate appropriate tools and equipment, and perform the physical activities necessary to provide effective hands-on instruction.
