Chief Engineer - Full-Time We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Chief Engineer to lead our hotel engineering team and oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the property. This is a working leadership position for someone who takes ownership, knows how to troubleshoot problems, and understands that keeping a hotel running well requires both strong technical skills and strong leadership. The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel's guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, equipment, building systems, and overall physical condition. This position works closely with hotel leadership and every department to ensure the property is safe, comfortable, well-maintained, and operating at its best. The ideal candidate is a working leader who is comfortable getting their hands dirty, but also knows how to manage a team, prioritize work, hold people accountable, communicate effectively, and plan ahead. We are looking for someone who sees a problem and takes ownership of getting it resolved rather than waiting for someone else to address it. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and physical condition of the hotel. Lead, train, schedule, and hold the engineering team accountable for completing assigned work and maintaining hotel standards. Prioritize daily maintenance requests, preventative maintenance, work orders, and property projects based on urgency and operational needs. Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance throughout guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, exterior spaces, and hotel facilities. Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, appliance, and general building issues. Oversee and maintain the hotel's HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life-safety, pool, kitchen, laundry, and other building systems. Develop and maintain an effective preventative maintenance program to identify and address issues before they become larger or more costly problems. Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns. Respond promptly to guest room and hotel maintenance requests and ensure issues are properly resolved and documented. Electrical experience is a strong plus. Maintain accurate records of work orders, preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, equipment, and other engineering activities. Monitor the condition of the property and communicate larger repairs, capital needs, and potential concerns to hotel leadership. Coordinate and oversee outside contractors, vendors, inspections, and service providers as needed. Obtain quotes and assist with evaluating repair and replacement options while being mindful of cost and long-term value. Monitor engineering supplies, tools, parts, and equipment and maintain appropriate inventory levels. Ensure all engineering areas, storage spaces, mechanical rooms, and work areas remain clean, organized, and safe. Ensure compliance with company policies, hotel standards, OSHA requirements, fire/life-safety requirements, and applicable local codes and regulations. Maintain required inspection records, permits, licenses, and documentation. Assist with emergency situations, including maintenance emergencies, utility interruptions, severe weather, and other situations affecting hotel operations. Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Desk, Food & Beverage, and other departments to resolve issues and maintain a positive guest experience. Communicate effectively with hotel leadership regarding ongoing projects, significant maintenance issues, staffing needs, and operational concerns. Manage and complete engineering projects from planning through completion. Identify opportunities to improve the property's efficiency, reliability, appearance, and overall guest experience. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by hotel leadership. Qualifications Minimum 3-5 years of progressive maintenance/engineering experience , preferably in a hotel or hospitality environment. CPO certified is preferred. Must be proficient with computer systems, POS systems preferred. Previous supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of building maintenance and hotel engineering systems. Proficient knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, and general building systems. Ability to troubleshoot complex problems and determine appropriate solutions. Experience managing preventative maintenance programs and work-order systems. Ability to lead, train, motivate, and hold a team accountable. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects and maintenance requests. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with guests, employees, vendors, contractors, and hotel leadership. Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship. Ability to safely use common maintenance tools, equipment, and testing devices. Ability to respond to maintenance emergencies and work a flexible schedule when needed. Must be able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, reaching, and working in various areas of the hotel. The Chief Engineer should be someone who doesn't just wait for work orders to come in, but actively walks the property, identifies problems, plans ahead, and works with the team to keep the hotel in the best condition possible. You don't have to know everything, but you need to know how to troubleshoot, communicate, prioritize, and find solutions. You should be comfortable both repairing a leaking toilet yourself and managing a larger project with contractors and hotel leadership.
