PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
The Utility Engineer maintains the daily operations of the studio facility. This role ensures a safe, clean, and fully functional environment for production crews, staff, and talent. The position combines handyman tasks, light trades, and preventative maintenance. 2.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Carpentry & General Handyman Duties Repair structures: Fix damaged drywall, trim, and baseboards.
Maintain fixtures:
Repair or replace interior and exterior doors, hinges, and locks. Assembly & installation: Assemble, move, and install office furniture, desks, and shelves.
Mount equipment:
Hang whiteboards, artwork, signage, and television monitors securely.
Safety inspections:
Inspect facility structures daily to identify and fix safety hazards. Painting & Surface Maintenance Prep surfaces: Patch holes, cracks, and dents in walls using spackle or joint compound. Sand & prime: Sand and prime repaired surfaces to prepare them for painting.
Apply coatings:
Paint interior walls, offices, corridors, and exterior trim as needed.
Studio upkeep:
Maintain the studio "cyclorama" (cyc wall) with frequent touch-ups and repainting.
Inventory control:
Match paint colors and maintain the facility paint inventory.
Light Plumbing Maintenance Clear blockages:
Unclog drains, toilets, and sinks using plungers or drain snakes.
Fix leaks:
Repair or replace leaky faucets, flush valves, and showerheads.
Daily checks:
Inspect restrooms and breakrooms daily for active leaks or water damage.
Water filtration:
Maintain water filtration systems and replace drinking water filters. Light Electrical & Lighting Bulb replacement: Replace burnt-out lightbulbs, ballast lamps, and LED tubes across the facility.
Safety testing:
Inspect emergency exit signs and backup lighting systems monthly.
Hardware updates:
Replace broken wall outlets, light switches, and cover plates safely.
Production support:
Assist with running or securing temporary utility cords for production sets. HVAC & Filter Management Filter changes: Replace air filters in HVAC systems on a set schedule.
Clean components:
Clean supply vents, return grilles, and exhaust fans to maintain air quality.
Climate control:
Monitor thermostat settings to ensure comfortable temperatures.
Escalations:
Report complex HVAC system failures to external licensed technicians. Studio Support & Logistics Clear pathways: Keep hallways, fire exits, and loading docks clear of debris.
Shop organization:
Organize the maintenance shop, tool cages, and spare parts inventory.
Rapid response:
Respond quickly to urgent maintenance requests from active production sets.
Waste management:
Manage waste disposal, recycling, and bulk trash removal tracking.
Pay:
$28.00 - $33.00 per hour
