Job Description

DEFINITION
: Under general supervision of the Public Works Director, learns to perform and performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks involved in the maintenance, limited construction, or repair of City buildings, facilities, and equipment; performs other related duties as required. Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Prepares surfaces for paving, mixes cement, breaks up paved surfaces; Uses such hand tools as shovel, rake, jackhammer and tampers; Loads and unloads trucks; Excavates and fills trenches and ditches; Operate compressors and spray rigs; Operate trucks and light mechanical equipment; Performs a variety of semiskilled and unskilled street maintenance and constructions duties; Maintains, mows and water lawns; trims and plants shrubs; cultivates and fertilizes lawns; Sprays weeds; rakes leaves and picks up trash from park areas; Cleans gutters and park pathways; Assists in planting of shrubs; Cleans and performs maintenance work on park equipment, buildings, and facilities; and cleans floors, windows and fixtures in park restrooms; Promote personnel safety programs; May operate a variety of motor-driven equipment, including skip loader, and water truck; Reviews and inspects work in progress and upon completion Fills in the "acting" position in the absence of the Sr. Maintenance Worker.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND five years' work experience demonstrating progressive responsibilities for specialized tools, equipment and documentation; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

(Physical and Environmental)
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at work sites throughout the City; required to perform skilled technical repair and maintenance work, and lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Must be able to work extended hours, weekdays, and holidays as needed, and respond to emergency callouts. May be required to travel to various sites, locations and/or events. Team members are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours; team members are required to assume duties of a disaster worker in the event of a locally declared emergency.
