The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and efficient operation of all production equipment, utilities, refrigeration systems, and facility infrastructure within Petit Pot's pudding manufacturing plant. This role is essential to minimizing production downtime, maintaining food safety and GMP compliance, and supporting continuous improvement across maintenance operations. The Maintenance Technician operates with a high degree of autonomy during the shift and is expected to make sound judgments under pressure, escalate issues appropriately, and always work in a manner consistent with food safety, GMP standards, and Petit Pot's environmental commitments as a Certified B Corporation.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Preventive Maintenance- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on production equipment, refrigeration systems (freezers, coolers, cooling cells), utilities, and facility infrastructure per the PM program and work orders in MaintainX.
- Follow all PM procedures, SOPs, and documentation standards accurately and on time; update equipment history and maintenance logs in MaintainX after each task.
- Monitor spare parts usage and flag low-stock items to the Maintenance Manager to ensure critical components are always available. Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and refrigeration system failures quickly and effectively to minimize production downtime.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints to support accurate diagnosis and repair.
- Escalate complex or unresolved breakdowns to the Maintenance Manager with a clear summary of the issue, actions taken, and recommended next steps. Equipment Installations & Upgrades
- Assist in the installation, modification, and upgrade of production and refrigeration equipment, ensuring all work meets quality standards and complies with safety and food safety regulations.
- Ensure that all maintenance and installation work on food-contact or food-adjacent equipment is performed in compliance with GMP standards — using approved materials, lubricants, and food-grade parts where required. GMP Compliance & Food Safety
- Immediately report to the Production Supervisor or QA Technician any maintenance activity that may have impacted product safety or quality (potential contamination, lubricant contact, foreign body risk).
- Apply lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures before any maintenance work on energized or hazardous equipment; never bypass safety interlocks or controls.
- Participate in GMP training and food safety awareness sessions. Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with the Production Supervisor to prioritize and coordinate maintenance interventions with minimal disruption to production schedules.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records in
MaintainX:
work orders, completed PM tasks, equipment history, breakdown reports, and spare parts usage.- Provide a clear written or verbal handover to the Maintenance team at the end of each shift: work completed, ongoing issues, equipment status, and any items requiring follow-up. - Support Petit Pot's environmental commitments by identifying and reporting opportunities for energy conservation, water reduction, or waste minimization within maintenance operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring equipment issues, proposing root cause solutions, and supporting projects aimed at improving reliability and reducing downtime.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechanics, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in a food manufacturing or agri-food environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills; solid understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigeration systems.
- Working knowledge of GMP requirements and food safety standards as they apply to maintenance activities in a food production environment.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and the ability to follow and update PM schedules independently.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment; experience with CMMS (MaintainX or equivalent) is a plus.
- Comfortable working autonomously on night shift, making independent decisions within scope, and escalating appropriately when needed.
- Strong communication skills; team-oriented mindset with a commitment to food safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
